I have varicose veins, I noticed when I wore my Merrell Jungle Moc shoes that I could shop longer and my feet/legs didn't ache as much. Then I had a podiatrist tell me that my arches were "falling" and recommended the Superfeet. Took out the Merrell insoles and put in the Superfeet (they take a couple of days to get used to them), and now I won't wear shoes without arch support.
My son ran XC in high school and college, he also swears by the Superfeet (orange); he started working retail and figured his athletic shoes (no orthotics) would be fine, he came home complaining about how much his legs ached. Got him some Merrell's, put in the Superfeet and no complaints (same response with another son working retail, and husband that walks on concrete all day).

We invented shoes primarily for cold climates and protection from harsh terrain.
Most of the people complaining about foot pain are simply suffering from the fact they are obese, which places an unnatural amount of weight on their feet combined with poor circulation from high blood sugar.
Most people with "feet problems" simply need to lose weight and exercise more.

And our Doctors here tell us the worst thing is to stand any period of time with no shoes on a hard surface. It stretches your ligaments. If you do not then stand all day for work usually they heal ok, But if you then stand for work they never do and it just gets worse. Being Obese in these cases is a not involved.
This is a solid deal.
Well you definitely don't live in Atlanta. Home of the five day Amazon prime shipping. Im not renewing my prime and now have Walmart+ for free with Amex plat.

Haha I'm a super skinny guy and have had feet pain issues for years. While being obese doesn't help, it's not the primary cause for a lot of people.
However, you can definitely argue shoes have caused people feet issues. Shoes have caused people's toes to bend inward and some shoes/insoles can flatten your arch (due to it not having to work). Also, many shoes (especially boots) throw off your natural gate which causes you to have bad posture.

Humans are also evolved to live to 40 and hunt for food. If you're happy with that lifestyle then by all means, go barefoot.
Jeff Bezos is almost literally my neighbor. Lives down the street in Medina, WA. That helps.

If they cost:
<$10: they are sock liners. They protect your socks from the bottom of your shoes, not your feet. Don't get these.
$10-20: standard drug store jello insoles. Very squishy and feel comfortable for the first 30 minutes, then your feet sinks in and start to hurt. They are ok if you got a desk job and only on your feet for commute. Skip the Dr and get Spenco.
$20-40: various reinforced soft materials. These are still soft insoles but generally have a better shape. They support your aches better and can hold up 2-4 hours continuously on your feet.
$50: These are generally insoles with a high density firm liner and rigid plastic heel cup and arch support. Your feet is designed to withstand impact and these insoles allows your feet to be absorb shock naturally while providing a firm support to your arches. Soft liners tend to allow your feet to have pressure points while stiff insoles evens out the pressure. The firm liner provides cushion all day and I don't feel soreness for at least 6-10 hours. They feel really stiff at first but your feet will adjust and you'll get all day relief. I like Superfeet and Treadlabs.
$100-250+: custom orthopedics. You might actually need them if your got particular feet or alignment issues. Spend the money if you have to because it's a life long condition if you don't correct it.
Make sure you get the right insoles based on your particular feet. Get gender specific insoles if you can because men/women feet shapes are different, but most unisex insoles are shaped for men. You need different arch support if you got flat feet vs high arches (orange is for flat/low arch, green for mid/high). If you have plantar fasciitis, get the stiffer than stiff insoles. (Look for PF or pain relief insoles. They generally cost $60 or more) Thanks for coming to my TED talk and I hope you find what you looking for.
I would warn anyone away from my 'gel-filled' insoles. They'll eventually burst and turn into a sock-ruining mess. That is all.

When I've tried replacing insoles in the past, they make my shoes too tight. (It sounds like there are some low profile insoles that might avoid this problem, but then they probably don't give as much support. To be most comfortable, maybe I need a thick insole in a bigger shoe?)
The reason these cost more than Dr. Scholl's is because they're made out of much stronger materials that are contoured, springy, but also make your feet rested. I stand all day at work and these have been a lifesaver. I've worn the same pair for a YEAR and I'm 250 lbs.
BE a cheapskate and buy these instead of spending $10 a month on those useless other insoles that don't even feel half as good as these.
WIDE FOREFOOT: The shape of these wide shoe inserts match a wide foot and footwear size 3E to 6E
I bought the Easyfeet (red) insoles for $20 back in May during a Amazon Lightening Sale. At the time I was suffering from chronic forefoot pain due to two different issues and also from plantar fasciitis pain likely because I was favoring the forefoot. It took a few days for discomfort from the high arch of the insoles to go away. I noticed a reduction in the pain from PF almost immediately. With PF one needs to stretch out the bottom of the foot first thing in the morning and throughout the day. The high arch support help greatly and the PF went away over the coming weeks.
My wife complained that her feet hurt in her hiking boots and mentioned buying new boots before our vacation hiking for a week in a national park. Her boots appeared to be in very good condition other than the cheap insoles that were flattened due to wear. I suggested she tryi new insoles before buying new boots. She also bought the Easyfeet insoles. She said her boots were okay with the new insoles and had no problems with the older boots with the new insoles. So new insoles, whether Easyfeet, Superfeet, or another brand can extend the life of shoes and boots or even make new shoes more comfortable.
