Most reviews are stating that this thing isn't any better than most standard TV speakers.

It's kinda sad in a way Philips allows its name to be slapped on things like this by having so many spin offs and subsidiaries. The original Philips that is so known for its major impact on the tech industry and was known for quality seems to primarily be focused on industrial grade solutions nowadays.

This is a 30W speaker. Do not expect too much. It probably not perfect for TV but it would be a good speaker for your PC or cell phone. I think it worth $30.

I only use old hardware and software. Currently sporting Geoworks Ensemble, Dr. Dos, and Polaris Packrat... Sometimes Lotus 123.

Not unless it is paired with a sub. I have been using sound bar for my desktop for a long time, those bars withouy sub don't have any bass.
Luckily sound bar with sub are often found around 50 to 60 dollars.
