I would not call this YA, it is framed like YA but is not YA. One of my favorite series ever, and my favorite fantasy one for sure. Book 3 is in my top 5 favorite books ever.

Also, wouldn't this technically be book 1 of 8, counting Secret History and lost metal (due out next year)
I've ready pretty much every Sanderson book I could get my hands on and yet I didn't even know these were coming out. I don't know HOW this man is as prolific as he is!

Next up try Steelheart. YA post apocalyptic super villain hunters.

Mistborn I don't really consider YA, Steelheart for sure is imo.

Books are great, but the audiobooks are transcendent. Probably my favorite experience, I relisten at least once a year.
I've never listened to audio books before, What would you say is the major difference beyond the obvious?

I believe Steelheart is marketed as YA. Still pretty darn good. It wasn't totally groundbreaking, but it was enjoyable. Typical Sanderson twists, but no new magic system, just random super powers.

Whereas I always heard it billed as YA, from day one. Because it is. Doesn't mean it's bad.

Worldbuilding and magic systems are the biggest strengths in this series. Characters are probably the biggest weakness.
I disagree with you about the characters. Elend and Vin's arcs are heartwrenchingly real.

I read them back when they came out, so it's been a while. I remember Vin moping and being emo for something like an entire book (maybe longer), for no reason at all. It was pretty tiresome. The characters just didn't strike me as compelling or being much beyond puppets Sanderson is using to progress the plot. Which is fine and all.
