Electric smokers are easy, quick, and good enough. It is for convenience. I use my electric smoker much more and more often than I ever do my other options. I can chuck in a pack of thighs and breasts turn a knob, insert a probe and come back 90 minutes later to great smoked chicken. I can put whole chicken or a turkey in and do the same in 4-9 hours, same or less overall effort as tossing in the oven but 1000x better result. Same with any meat. Other then putting in some more wood chips occasionally, that's it. Electric is not as smokey crusty and flavorful for some things but the simplicity gets you using it more and it's still great. In my opinion small poultry has less of a difference, large pork has a bigger difference and I'll still use my non electric offset at times for that.. People claiming electric is for newbies or down grading claiming your not experienced enough for a "real" smoker are full of it.. The major EXPERIENCE of smoking is knowing how to pick the meat, the prep, the spices, the rituals, the sauce, the temperature and timing. That applies across the board regardless of what you are using to actually cook/smoke or even if not smoking and using an oven..... A true wood/charcoal/pellet is icing on the cake if you have the time and/or money. Get an electric smoker and you will enjoy the outcome. Even cheap skinless boneless chicken, cheap store bought kalbasi and sausage, baked beans, and all of the traditions like ribs, brisket, shoulders etc... Toss in some pork ribs (I prefer st louis), follow some basic prep for smoking ribs online, it's 4-6 hours, the last 2 hours throw in some packaged kielbasa, brats, or similar and a pan of baked beans if you have room and have cornbread and South Carolina style sauce standing by and enjoy!!!!
I can't speak for this specific electric smoker.

Maybe not this one, but my Materbuilt, I do use a pellet tray instead of the chip tray,, gets me " that's the best barbecue I've ever had, and doesn't even need any sauce" all the time!

Can you explain this a bit more? I have a masterbuilt smoker but i load in wood chips
They make trays and tubes that you pellets in that will allow you to smoke unattended for the who cook/smoke if desired. I have one of each but only have used the tray, A maze n in brand, bought the tube from a deal on her just to have. They range from $10-30 depending on brand. You can use as little or as much to get the times you want. I normally load one side, out of 3 and get 3 hours of continuous smoke, thats all you really need for most meats, as after that you don't do much for flavor and all.

Just search the internets and you will see lots of info on it.

I do chicken often in the electric smoker and usually use apple chips in the default smoker try.
Just tried pellets in a tube for the first time last night. I did more normal routine skinless chicken pieces for about 2 hours and then some cheese since the smoke was still going strong once the smoker cooled down. I love the concept of the peelts and tube but I'll have to mess with different pellets. I did some Pitboss Hickory pellets from Walmart and both the chicken and the cheese came out very harsh. I have a hunch pork would not have been so harsh. Not sure if I want to try the Apple version or maybe skip the pitboss pellets all together. I'd rather not experiment with various 10-20lb bags Smilie

Yes, both of those (too.much/long smoke and type of wood/pellets) can cause that result. Try cutting down the number of pellets say by half or more and also try a fruit like an apple as you are used to that taste.

Also, how much did you fill the tube? If it was fill then try at 1/4 or 1/3 full, hickory will be on the stronger side for chicken.

once you get it dialed in you will love the convenience, but maybe not so much on just a 2 hour smoke but for sure on longer runs!

Finally opened mine yesterday. Assembly was a bit complex, but not as bad as the gas2coal grill I got not too long from wally as well. I do like the way it's designed and engineered. I did a 20lb turkey in it and it came out great!
Can anyone recommend a cover?
