It will work in a sense, but severely handicapped losing just about all the key features that you'd want this system for.

I've been on the fence about getting an Arlo system watching the regular Costco deals. Was planning on pulling the trigger on this months upcoming deal. Would you say Arlo is recommended, or is there another system to consider?
So if I am just looking for a front porch real time camera, is this the way to go? Just linking to Alexa, no subscription.
If you just want a real time camera for the porch with no subscription/video storage and has linking to Alexa for viewing on like Echo Show or announcement from the devices, then I'd personally go with a Ring Doorbell. It's got a much faster response time than Arlo and will more easily integrate with your existing Alexa setup.
These Arlos don't sound like they'd be the best for your use case scenario.

Wyze - Smart detection and services still aren't fully there. Good budget system, but just didn't meet all my use needs I laid out.
Ring - Faster with nice bells and whistles, but at a slightly higher price and more difficult to admin subscription service. Plus, the additional privacy concerns pushed me further away as well. Also lacked vehicle detection on the doorbell camera.
Arlo - Decent person, animal, and vehicle detection. Animal detection is useful because I get stray animals using my yard as a litter box and I have an automation in place to turn on the sprinklers in the camera's respective zone for 1 minute when an animal is detected. Has local recording to my USB drives with base stations. Package detection is also a nice feature for when I get deliveries to my porch. Only major flaw I've experienced with this system is the consistent lag between real time and the video feed. The video is usually 2-5 seconds behind what is happening in real time.

I have an arlo system with 4 cameras and a hub.. two of the cameras are having issues and was wondering if these can be used as replacements to connect to the hub or if they're stand alone cameras.. they make so many different ones it is hard to tell. 😱

Great idead with the animal detection and stray cat automation!
I hadn't even considered that and would be great for my yard being the neighborhood litter box.

I have multiple Arlo cameras and love it! Like many people in the comments, I think getting the subscription is worthwhile. Otherwise you are buying a top-tier camera without the bells and whistles. The app itself is pretty intuitive and quality is pretty good compared to my other Nest cameras.
