This is likely a stupid question, but I don't really have any experience with postpaid plans and was hoping to get some insight from some of you who are well versed in how this all works. Would I be able to buy this through BB, request that Tmobile unlock it, then have my wife take it to Costco and do the BYOD for $300 Costco GC?
I haven't done this per se, but I do believe it would be possible. Some caveats: you'll need to keep the new phone active on your own line until they unlock it. It might take 1-3 days.

Does your wife not have an existing phone she can use for the BYOD deal? You could buy the BB deal, use it until it's unlocked, meanwhile have your wife do the BYOD. Once she gets her SIM/line active on tmobile, you'll get the BB phone unlocked and she can just start using that. No need for her to wait or use the BB phone as BYOD if she has an existing phone.

Then again, she can just do the BYOD deal then walk into BB the next day and do the upgrade hjerself since she'll have a TMO line.

Appreciate the response. Unfortunately the current phone she has is carrier locked. Don't really mind waiting for Tmobile to unlock the BB iphone. Going to give it a shot, hopefully I can successfully take advantage of this BB promo + the Costco promo.

Try calling T-Mobile and opening an account directly. Then after you get your SIM card and activate it, you'll be able to check out with Best Buy using the 'upgrade' option.

I picked up a 13 max pro a couple days ago using a trade in. now I think it's too big for me. Can I bring it back and swap for a 13 pro? I imagine they might charge me the $45 fee for opened package but I don't know if they will allow the exchange? Have anyone exchanged their phones?
I feel the same way. The Pro Max is entirely too large and heavy...with my case/Pop Socket combo, it weighs ~11 ounces (my old phone was ~7 oz). My hand hurts and I can barely reach across the screen (it's definitely not a one-handed phone)...I wish I had listened to people who said it was too big and got the Pro instead. 😂

Did you guys notice that even if you have a higher gigabyte storage model you don't get any more value? Not sure if that has always been the case or if it's glitching for me right now. For example an iPhone 12 mini 64gb trade in is 630, but so is the 256gb one and 128gb one, all 3 are $630, I would have figured the higher capacity ones would get more money in trade...?
It has always been the case. Storage hasn't ever been a factor for trade in prices.

Just so I understand you better, why do you need to unlock it to take it to Costco and do BYOD?

Are you already on TMO?

Like I said, don't really have much experience with post paid plans, so maybe I am completely wrong with what I am trying to do. My plan is to use this promo to trade in my old SE 2020 and walk out of BestBuy with a iphone 13. Request an unlock/cancel the new line and then go to Costco and start a new Tmobile line to take advantage of the BYOD for a $300 Costco GC. Is this completely wrong? Not sure if I am trying to do something that doesn't work the way I am thinking it does. I am currently using ATT refill cards. Would be a new to TMO.

One step at a time.

Do you already have T-Mobile service or would you open a new account at BB?

Then your approach is wrong and will likely cost you double. Correct approach would be to go to Costco first and open the BYOD line there (you only need an IMEI number for that, not an actual phone in your hand). Use the IMEI of your ATT phone that you're currently using. When you get back from Costco, set up your TMO online account. Then go to BB website, order the new phone as an upgrade with one-time payment (I assume you have a trade), pick it up and be happy. Cancel the Costco lines after you get the rebate card.

With your approach you'd be opening a new TMO account at BB, cancel it right away only to open another one at Costco a few hours later. That will likely get you flagged if you use the same name/SSN and assuming that TMO doesn't prorate the first month, likely cost you double (once for the new account at BB and then again for the new Costco account)

I'm not currently on T-mo. If I sign up for a plan and cancel as soon as they unlock the device, am I responsible for the full month or will it be prorated? Any activation fees? Trying to calculate my total out the door cost. TIA!

If those line items make or break the deal for you, it may very well not be for you.
