You're referencing the T-Mobile deal? There is indeed a standard process by which the line level credits are migrated to account level credits so that you can continue to receive them on a monthly basis.

Good luck!

So you are saving a bunch of $$$ just to complain about $40? They don't require anyone to pay $40 for transferring data. Best Buy employees don't owe anyone a free labor. Sometimes this so-called transfers can take hours. This is especially true for older people ( with all due respect ). You don't want to pay for $40? Step back or go home. Backup your phone and come back complete your trade-in. No need to act like Karen

Once again, proofing reading all, or most pages would make one a better SDer.

Guys need your advise/thought. Today we traded in 11Pro Max to 13 Pro at BestBuy. Paid taxes $58. Trade in value ($690), and remaining $310 spread for 30 months. New Phone is showing up in my TMobile account (Simple Choice) and even working with old phone SIM. New phone EIP is also in my Tmobile account. Funny thing (or mistake) is BestBuy did not take my old phone. We are home. What do you think going to happen???
They can't do much at this point. Wait a few weeks and sell your phone or do another trade-in tomorrow if you need another iPhone 13. If you think that the employee at the store can get in trouble, feel free to take it back and explain what happened to the manager at the store.

Someone over ST thread post this... hope it address some of your concerns:

Quote from zyrst
I did two trade-ins and found two things listed in the wiki are different with my experience:
1. You need to currently be on T-Mobile; otherwise you'll need to sign up for a new plan which will have a hard credit pull.
I opened new account and gave SSN but was told it was not hard pull. My credit score had no change since then;
2. After the phone is unlocked, cancel the T-Mobile plan; ask them to pro-rate any current charges.
After the two phones were unlocked within one week of purchase, I called to cancel the service. I was charged $130 for two Magenta lines. There was no prorate charge. I had to pay full amount in my "last bill".
Thank you … just called and canceled my service after 5 days of activation with T-Mobile . T-Mobile applied pro rated charge by raising exception . Hopefully my books are clean with T-Mobile and they don't have me on hook for anything .

You left a lot of details of the actual transaction out, so let's discuss two possible scenarios.

1) During the transaction, you told the Best Buy rep that you had a trade-in. Rep took your trade-in; entered the imei, your contact, and driver license info; and printed out trade-in receipts for you. However, they forgot to take your iPhone 11, so you left the store with the iPhone 11, iPhone 13, and trade-in receipt for the iPhone 11.

In this scenario, there is not much Best Buy can do except blacklist the iPhone 11 as lost/stolen. If it doesn't happen within a month, you are probably fine.

2) You did not inform the Best Buy rep that you had a trade-in, just that you had a online phone pickup. The rep fulfilled your online pickup, and you left the store with both phones but no trade-in receipt.

In this scenario, Best Buy probably will determine later no actual trade-in was conducted, and will bill your credit card for the full amount of the trade-in. You agreed to this when you agreed to the trade-in terms. I think others had made this mistake earlier in this thread; you'll have to reach out to them about what Best Buy did.

Oh oh… not even sure they can prove u did not provide them the phone… assuming they processed everything correctly they simply forgot to take it from you.
Except trade in phone, they did everything correctly.

We clearly mentioned trade in and also the order shows trade in amount $690. They never asked for Old IMEI. They simply called TMobile (from store) and verified my account using my PIN. That's all. No driver license. BTW, used gift cards for the transaction.

Business accounts don't qualify for this. You need to convert to a personal account/plan

Best Buy will just try to charge you the trade in amount that was taken off when you placed the order. Apple, T-Mobile, BestBuy can all lock your new iPhone even if it's off no matter where it is in the world because technically what you're doing is theft. They can go back and check the cctv footage and see that you never gave them a phone to trade as you had promised when placing your order. If Best Buy can't charge your card for the trade in amount that was taken off on the order they can report your new device as stolen since you walked out the store without paying the full price you owed. This is no different from me throwing a 5 dollar bill at the cashier and walking out with a iPhone 13 lol

T-Mobile existing customer, Went to BestBuy, got new 13Pro /exchanged SE2 for $360. They took care of everything including data copying. Paid around $50 for taxes and rest in installments.
So you are saying you let voluntarily a $15 bucks/h teenager handle your data copying?!EEK!

So you admit, the trade-in was not processed. Doesn't matter if the rep forgot or didn't understand you, the trade-in wasn't processed and you don't have a trade-in receipt to prove it. Without a trade-in receipt showing Best Buy accepted your iPhone 11, they can come back later and bill you for it. The gift card was a smart move, but you left them a way to track you in the form of the iPhone 13 EIP. Whether they do anything is anyone's guess, guess you'll find out in a month or two.
