Seems like the CPU may limit the fps, since it's really just 2.3ghz under real world conditions, when it heats up, it's mostly going to only be at 2.3ghz all cores. Thoughts?

I can confirm that the sustained all core clock when gaming is 3.6 Ghz. Also maintains that clock during a 10 minute cinebench r23 run, although at 95c and with the fans going full tilt. (see screenshot)

While doing anything else though it's almost always over 4 Ghz, typically around 4.4-4.5 Ghz (things like unzipping files, copying data, installing programs, using the included Android emulator, etc.)

The Legion 5 at Amazon.com is better deal if that is discounted to this price range now or during black Friday.

Legion 5 has better screen, 165hz and 100% sRGB color gamut. Also has higher wattage 3050ti at 90w. Has 2 x M.2 slots and one 2.5" slot. Arguably better keyboard than most other gaming laptops.

A mobile card will never be better than a desktop card. It's just a space and heat problem.
JarrodsTech 3060 desktop vs laptop videos reveal 3060 laptop is within a few % of the desktop version, and that wasn't at all the fastest 3060, it didn't even have a 11800H. Shows how close they are and how much desktop folks overrated despite insane wattage and space advantage

Do these gaming laptops throttle under load? I have a old xps15 with specs that should be able to handle most things I play and literally it literally throttles to a halt when I play anything.
Many don't, this one does it's trash. Legion 5 and IdeaPad gaming have good thermals, nitro 5 performs well too

It's all about the cooling design. XPS one just isn't that large and it's a thin laptop so it can't dump heat fast enough.

What do you guys think for a mid-range gaming laptop? This or the Best Buy G15?

Yep. Older but better than Zenith. Lol.
Similar to Asus, but I think MSI will work harder and use better components as an underdog.
Zenith is a name I haven't heard in a long time. Nowadays I honestly don't have a preference when it comes to hardware. Have had good luck with it all equally. But I know some that refuse to use certain brands. I have probably used more MSI and Gigabyte though now that I think of it.

I can't speak on the G15 but I can give you guys some scores on this exact laptop since I've had a bunch of free time today to run benchmarks

CPU Mark (Passmark) - 22574 (multi) / 3232 (single)
3D Mark (Passmark) - 12886 (included screenshot)

For reference, both of those scores JUST beat out an i9-10850k GTX 1070 ITX build I have

And here is a link to a few UserBenchmark runs I completed
