I have this laptop and it's a beauty. It's my introduction into gaming laptops but I'm really enjoying it. Battlefield V is fantastic on it. Smooth and super responsive laptop.
Hi, thanks for feedback. I also plan to buy it to play bf5

Does anyone know about the heating and the fan noise?

How would the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2021nr from Microcenter stack up against this? Right now it is 699, but it goes on sale quite frequently for 599. Would it be a major difference for video editing? Not really much of a gamer. Of course I would add to make it 16gb of ram, so if on sale for 600 I guess add 50 bucks on top (650)

I had it before and returned it.

It's a good laptop if you don't mind the GPU (I had 1660ti version) but i just didn't like the look and the bulkiness of it... I do regret returning it thu last year

What do you guys think for a mid-range gaming laptop? This or the Microcenter MSI?

As far as fan noise, it's loud when it gets going since it has multiple fans for ventilation. The noise is there, but it's kind of expected when you're playing the game. If you're wearing headphones you don't notice it as much. Regarding heat, it does get warm and that's expected as well but the fans do their part to keep it in check. I have been utilizing a small notepad under the laptop screen area to prop it at an angle, to ensure airflow is occurring under the base of the keyboard to maximize the fans ability.

Overkill for quarantine work laptop?

Compared to a run of the mill laptop a lot of people use then yes. However, unless longer battery power is a major requirement, I still prefer gaming laptops for normal work laptops. Not only are they usually easy to upgrade (where others may not be, i.e. soldered RAM) but the overall quickness of everything is what appeals to me.

JARROD's TECH did a review for this same spec but the 3060 GPU

apparently the screen was pretty bad for a high refresh rate panel

Very nice deal! Has almost everything. If it comes with 3060 and at $999, I'll pay more to it! Must be patient!!!

3050... More like entry level, not really mid ranged. Lower mid ranged would be a 3060. Upper mid ranged would be a 3070. High end is 3080 and 3090.
