I am an Army Persian Gulf vet and my grown sons would never try to benefit from / on my service in that way, or assume it was alright.

That said, it's nice when they do anything, and 10% off is still nice for people who are shopping for things that don't usually go on sale.
And I did mean it. I wouldn't say it if I didn't. And I'd like to believe my actions beyond just words reflect my gratitude (i.e. picking up the grocery tab for a veteran ahead of me at the checkout, organizing -- and serving at -- a free dinner for veterans), etc.
