I've been waiting on these to restock and they finally did last week, but at $799.99 full price.
Definitely might go cheaper for BF ($679.99 in May 2021), but this is a great deal if you don't want to wait, or if you're afraid they won't actually be on sale.

Depends on your preference and expectations.
The 15" will dig deeper but two 12" would give a wider dispersion of their sound.
Placement is critical for best results and that 15" has a big footprint.
My dedicated theater room is in an upstairs bonus room that is 18.5 ft long by 13.5 ft wide and a 8ft ceiling. I have a couch facing the 13.5 ft wall facing a 130 inch projector screen at 12 ft away. The room has a door and I would say is sealed very well except for a single window. I have a very old 10 inch Martin Logan Dynamo 500 with 120 RMS and 360 peak. It doesn't sound terrible, but I want to wake the neighbors babies when I watch movies or jam out. I love bass and want the most bang for the buck with a max budget of $1200, would be willing to stretch to $1400 to get X2 Monolith 12s.
Given the size of the room my initial game plan was to get a single 15inch ported version, what I am hearing is I should get 2 x 12s...

Keep in mind every environment and layout are different and would be impossible for me or anyone to tell you how these would sound or perform for you.
Based on your description and what you're after, either will "wake the neighbors babies".
You will "feel" the impact more with the 15", whether it covers your seating sufficiently is unknown.
If you need a wider dispersion, two subs makes more sense.
Hope that helps and good luck
