Can someone explain as to why you would buy a $200 rice cooker when you can get one for 1/10 of the cost that cooks perfect rice everytime? I'm baffled.
$20 rice cookers don't cook perfect rice every time. If you eat rice often, a Zojirushi or Tiger is worth it.

This Japan or China?
if you look at the picture on the top right of the start button, it says "made in japan"

If you cook rice often enough and also cook in a way that rice is an important part of the meal, the Zojirushi / Tiger / Cuckoo rice cooker are definitely worth it.

Also, if you think a $20 rice cooker cooks perfect rice, you may not have tried rice made from a $200 cooker. None of the rice is ever too mushy, too sticky, or too crisp / hard. It's also very convenient as well since there is typically a keep warm function that can keep the rice close to perfectly fresh for a day or two, perfect for people that eat a lot of rice with all their meals.

Haha, my $20 aroma does not cook it too mushy, sticky, or crisp. My aroma also has that same keep warm function. I am still very confused. But I mean hey, if you got the money to burn go for it!
It seems like an extravagant expense for a Zojo, but if you eat rice regularity, they are truly worth it. We have had one for 12 years.

If you cook a lot of rice and you're interested in the differences of the rice, there is an article on Epicurious (can just Google it) where they compare the rice cooked by a bunch of different cookers (including Zojirushi and Aroma), which explains the differences more specifically than I can here. I personally eat a ton of rice, but since I'm traveling for work I've been cooking with of an old rice cooker I brought along with me. I can definitely tell the difference (less fluffy, less evenly cooked, definitely "chewier") and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back home to my Zojirushi.

So basically what I'm saying is that the differences are there and real, which is corroborated by most people who have actually tried the rice made by those different cookers. However whether or not those differences are worth the price premium is totally up to you as it is with any other product.

Cool story. This is obviously not for you, where you can easily just move on.

There's always that one person that thread craps on a rice cooker thread. Do you have a deal alert for rice cookers so you can tell everyone about your awesome $20 rice cooker on every rice cooker thread?

These are good but my wife recently switched from this to a pressure cooker for rice. Way faster and the zoji can only steam rice with water, can't do broth or anything with fat in it.

Thinking about replacing my current Zojirushi. Is induction worth the extra money compared to this unit?

These are pricey. What makes these better than a pan with water?

The pot is called instant pot! I eat rice almost everyday and the rice cooked in instant pot has been perfect ! There is a chewy texture from the rice which I don't think I can get from regular tiger / Zojirushi.
