I've been using the plastic slingshot-looking plastic with the piece of floss strung between it. Does anyone have experience with these vs those as far as effectiveness?

This is good for people who have crowns/cavities between teeth/braces.
It works better if your teeth are further apart.
Floss works better when your teeth closer.

Dang, no sale on the Advanced ones; they've always done a better job for me. I use them for flossing since I have permanent retainers on top and bottom.

I prefer the Advance version too. Having braces now. How do you like the permanent retainer compare to the regular version? Is it more expensive than the regular?

This is not a replacement for dental flossing, but rather a compliment as they don't have the same reach between teeth. I've found these to be most effective for gum health - the ribbed green part massages the gums and keeps them from "puffing up". When the dentist measures the depth of your gums, they start recommending a "deep cleaning" past a certain point, and they of course charge an arm and a leg for it.

Using these, my gums have never been healthier, and before using these i was flossing regularly.

One last thing - prepare to have some bleeding if you aren't used to these - it will stop as your gums get to a healthier place, but certainly at the beginning it can be a surprise.

Gave up on flossing a couple years ago and have been using this and water flosser. Skipped a couple dentist cleaning sessions during Covid. Went for a check up and cleaning last month and dentist said my tooth are doing well.

Pricing was the same for me. I like not having to worry about wearing something at night, and in the 8 years since getting braces off my teeth haven't moved at all.

The only downside for me is that the retainer has definitely changed the chemistry of my mouth somehow that causes me to build tartar up quicker than before. I'll actually get visible tartar buildup if I go 6 months in between cleanings, so I actually visit the dentist 3x a year for cleanings to prevent this.

It's great to not have to remember and worry about wearing retainer at night. Does the permanent retainer lasted that long without having to replace it? Also, could the tartar buildup be related to changes in diet or habit?
