I got 4 of these as a bundled gift with my WD Easystore external disk purchases. These flash drives are _neither reliable nor passably performant_. Although $11 for 128GB sounds like a friggin' deal, my experience with 3 out of 4 makes me think these are at best "single use" drives. Two of them died on me maybe after 10-ish boot image writes and 20 boots. One of them got mechanically stuck with because retraction mechanism is plastic-on-plastic and not really well made. The other one is still alive but barely gets any writes anymore.

I get about 18MB/s write, 115MB/s read speeds from the 32GB ones. (BlackMagic Disk Speed Test result: https://imgur.com/a/b5q1lmj)

approx 6 months ago there were numerous clearance deals on USB SSD and walmart had the PNY for $10 - 500GB. So this is not slick but ok!

So we can put an even bigger pipe in front of an anemic cache?

Is this just like an SSD in the form of a dash drive or is there nothing special about this? What is the difference between this an a SanDisk Flash Drive?

For this variety of slow-access USB drives, what's is the desire or use case for such huge sizes?
