You can flash these to moto g pros also just FYI. Gives you a pixel style launcher. Maybe other things as well.

Bought this at Walmart for $150 last year-ish to replace my Moto X4. I enjoy it. I thought the stylus would be hokey but I'm amazed at how often I use it. The fact that removing the stylus while the phone is sleeping wakes it and pops up the "stylus" apps -- most notably, Note -- is very helpful, especially for jotting quick reminders and grocery lists. Camera is pretty good, too.
Crazy how Samsung stopped note line with useful stylus.

The S21 Ultra has pen support, and Samsung offers a case+stylus combo that sort of converts the phone into a Note, but yeah, not the same. I still have a Note 9, which I love. The camera is not as good as the S21 Ultra, but the S Pen is great. I wish Samsung would bring the Note line back. I'd much rather have that in their mix than the Z series.

Note 9 is the last true note. It's a downgrade after that, each one, until S21 Ultra.
I have Note 8 and holding onto to it dearly, but it's time to upgrade.

But pixel 3 xl is same price so why not get that? Better camera and app support.
Very bad battery life even at launch, far worse now after 3 years of battery degradation

Curious and also hanging on to my Note 8, why wouldn't the Note 20 Ultra be a good choice? It still has the stylus and it is the last one to have expandable SD memory. Or the Note 10? What makes Note 9 the last true note? I may have to reset my sights. Thanks! hug

....and the Pixel's 64GB of memory is non-expandable due to the exclusion of a card slot.

Note 20 Ultra would probably be a contender, but remember it's a lower pixel density which may or may not be an issue, and lacks headphone jack, again won't matter if you only use BT headphones. A lot of people (including myself) did not find the new fp scanner under the screen to work all that good, compared to super fast and accurate back scanner, makes samsung pay much easier and faster than trying to use screen fp. They kept one most annoying feature (or loved, depending on your stance on this) that is curved screen. I love my Note 8 except the curved screen makes typing horrible experience, no matter what you do. There is also ugly/unbalance due to camera hump, come on samsung, of course again, if you keep it in a case should be fine, just like case helps with curved but then why get curved?

If my Note 8 died today, would I get it, sure, why not, but I am a bit torn between Note 20 Ultra and S21 +

The price of Note 20 Ultra is another downside, it's still around $1200, are you able to find it for less anywhere? That's a crazy price for something that drops in value after year, compared to iPhones. I paid $750 for my Note 8 which was perfect price point, and it was a little less than year after release.. N20U was released when? Over a year ago, and still premium price? I don't get that.. Not getting updates is another problem with Samsung phones.

I guess we'll wait for BF and see if anything pops up, hoping Costco do some deals.

No. There are other functions like battery saver and adaptive battery but not what you mentioned.

Thanks for your very thorough review! I did not know about the change in pixel density or the headphone jack; I thought it had one. I was able to price the Note20U down to about $700 on Samsung.com, if I trade in my perfect Note 8, but I'd rather keep my 8 as a backup. Also holding out for BF. Thanks again & Repped!!Peace

Stand strong Note8 brother/sister ✊
I woudn't trade it in either, I still have my Note 3 (broken screen sadly, could not get it replaced) and I love that phone too. One day someone will offer some kind of trade for it, I think BB or Samsung did it once, any condition for $50 or something? Maybe I'll trade it then.

Got the Note8 when it was BOGO in holiday 2017, then got a used note 9 in mid 2020 when I broke the screen on the note8. Discovered that Chase Freedom Flex repairs phones for a scant $50 deductible, so got the note8 completely refurbbed with new screen, battery, charger port, etc. Now I use basically whichever of the two phones is nearest to me in my home (google voice handles calls).

Love both phones for the superfast fingerprint scanner and awesome looking videos. The loss of the headphone jack killed the note line for me after the note 9, and the loss of SD card killed all samsung flagships in general for me after the note 20 ultra.

Over time I have tinkered with several note/stylus phones and I have basically come to the conclusion that I myself don't use them (or even remember that my devices have them). Kudos to those that use them though.

I am just curious, for the people who love/have to have them, what do you guys use stylus/note functionality for on your devices? What feature makes it indispensable for you?

Whip it out and take notes on the spot, draw arrows etc (i guess you can do it with your finger) sign documents (i guess you can sign once and save your signature), play games that are impossible to play without stylus like Picross type games, I think some people use it as remote shutter or shortcuts, extract text from pictures (i suppose other phones can do it but I am not sure if they can without 3rd party app). But just taking it out and taking notes without any apps etc is biggest benefit.

What phone are you using or which direction did you go? I am comparing most recent Samsung phones and they all miss something or have disadvantage, why couldn't they make one and combine good stuff. No SD card was the worst, but Note20 Ultra has that. Headphone jack is completely gone, no more. One reason why we love the A71, such a nice phone, got it for $300 well worth every penny.
Seems like still S21 Ultra is the most likely to be Note replacement especially with 5000mAh battery, faster processor and best ppi among recent samsungs, closest to Note 8.
