It's applied automatically by the dealer, reflected in the out-of-the-door price.

These state incentives are just detached from reality right now. I applied for preapproval for the CA Clean Vehicle Rebate in April and it finally went through a few weeks ago, giving me two weeks to buy a car. Was hoping to use it before the drop in the Clean Fuel reward noted here. So cool, $3000 bucks off MSRP, right? (for a PHEV)

Well not really, every car I've called about either has a full waitlist or has 1 or 2 available at a $5000-$7000 markup. You read that right. I just got off the phone about a Hyundai Tucson PHEV in Laguna Niguel with an MSRP of 36,500 and they're just tacking on a 15-20% surcharge. Similar experiences with the Rav4 PHEV.

If you're desperate for a car I guess this will help - but if you're looking for any sort of a Slickdeal, or even a reasonable price, don't waste your time right now like I have.

Yeah, pretty bad time to buy any car with a gas engine. EVs shouldn't have that kind of demand, so maybe consider using the credit for an EV?

Wonder what the market will look like once the F150 Lightning is finally available to order.

If this wasn't mistyped, I'm confused on why you would think that.

Same here. Confused by his response. There is a global chip shortage that is hurting all the car manufacturers. Also, he was replying to the person who was shopping for EV not gas car.

Holy cow. Welps, there's no "better hurry" as there's nothing to buy. I ended up ordering a Model 3 for this reason, but my price is going up by $750 as a result of this assuming if it'll still be available by March next year. The markup is just highway robbery

you cant buy new cars without paying that dumbass markup (more often than not, you cant even buy with the markup because they literally have 0 to sell), so if you go used, like 4-5 yr old 100k mile corolla and the likes start around $15000. can you believe this?

I made use of incentives last year and man it was the only reason I went for hybrid. I got 7500 in federal + 5k clean vehicle & $3500 on top of cvrp & 4K off brand new vehicle at that time.

Luckily I managed to snag a rav4 prime back in aug at msrp. I had to wait on a 10 month waitlist though
