Great price, it has been like this for a week or two.
If you have MC near by, highly recommended getting it.

This. Macs with intel chips are now obsolescent. The next macOS that comes out in 4 days will have functionality that won't be supported on intel chips.
Meaning If you buy a Mac with an intel chip today, it will have unsupported features in just a few days.

Thank you. Is this much better than a MacBook air with the m1? The most I do is photo editing.

This Macbook Air IS M1 CPU as the title says. M1 CPU came out in late 2020 but Apple is already coming out with an updated cpu called M1 Pro X PRO MAX bla bla bla version which is even better, apparently. You would want 16GB RAM for futureproof and better performance but damn.... additional 8gb of ram costs like $100+ in the apple world.

I am a window/android user but I may try out Air M1 8gb when the price goes even lower.

It has seven(7) cores 🤣

edit:quote from notebookcheck.net
"Apple M1 GPU is an integrated graphics card offering 7 cores (1 deactivated core in the entry MacBook Air) designed by Apple and integrated in the Apple M1 SoC. According to Apple it is faster and more energy efficient as competing products (like the Tiger Lake Xe GPU). The peak performance of the high end variant with 8 cores is 2.6 teraflops, therefore the 7 core version should offer around 2.3 teraflops. Thanks to the unified memory architecture it should have fast access to the RAM. "

These are binned chips. In reality, they have 8 GPU cores, but during the manufacturing process one of the cores did not pass quality assurance checks, so they disabled it, and now sell it as a 7-core GPU. Nothing to be concerned about unless you want every last drop of graphics performance; I have one of the 7-core GPU systems and it is perfectly speedy.

For the average consumer, definitely.

For those that are looking to keep a laptop more than 1 year - not so much.

The display is on a whole other level.

Brightness on the Air is about 300-350 nits - meaning at 50% brightness (what battery tests are based on) the screen will be at 150 nitts.

Macbook 14" has a max brightness of 1600 nits with a sustained brightness of 1000 nits.

Meaning you can set your brightness at 50% and it still will be brighter than the Air at 100% brightness.

All of this may seem pointless, but it means the 14" has dramatically better battery life.

Processor speed at least 3x the Air with 2-3x the battery life.

That's not even mentioning the ProMotion display.

Nothing wrong with the Air, it's the best budget laptop on the market hands down, but let's not go overboard and act like the Air is better than the 14"

Dont bother buying a Macbook Air with 8GB of RAM

Who would spend $1000 on a laptop in 2021 with only 8GB of RAM?

Do you plan on keeping it for 1-2 years? then grab this, if you plan on keeping it past that date - which i assume 90% of people spending $1000 will want to do then 16GB is the way to go.

They need to stop making laptops with less than 512GB immediately. The fact that they charge $200 for an upgrade is outrageous, when consumer prices for high end 500GB SSD's are less than $50. How the heck does making these laptops which will last a couple years not have an effect on then environment?
