Quad core is pretty lame nowadays, but Intel can't seem to make a good 6/8 core processor that doesn't melt a laptop… Ryzen makes 8 core / 16 thread mobile processors that stat cool and sip electricity (comparatively)… Thats why Intel keeps using the quad cores… They still run hot as hades too. i5 quad cores just about the same as a i7 quad core, just with lower boost and a little less in the igpu, which makes them actually a better buy. Cheaper and won't throttle as much, allowing a more steady experience…
Yes, you can try to undervolt and tweak this and that, but you shouldn't have to.
