  • About this offer (full FAQ here):
    • This offer is separate from your quarterly bonus category offer, but automatically added to your account when you activate your Q4 bonus categories. You'll earn 5% cash back on up to $1500 in total spend in the eligible rewards category where you spend the most from October 1 – December 31, 2021. That's 4% additional cash back on top of the 1% cash back per $1 USD spent that you earn on all purchases.
    • Please allow up to 8 weeks after the end of the offer period for your bonus cash back to post to your account.
    • This offer may be combined w/ the current 5% back on PayPal purchase offer, however please note since both your top spend category and quarterly bonus category offers are earned as 4% bonus cash back on top of the 1% cash back you earn on every purchase, and the 1% can only be earned once per purchase, the most you will earn per $1 spent is 9% cash back.
Good Deal?

Set up PayPal so you can pay with QR codes. Link your Chase freedom flex as the payment method.

CVS is one of the few places that take PayPal QR codes as payment. It's been recommended to use self checkout, if possible. Once you add the gift card, DO NOT click any payment method on the self checkout terminal. Instead, scan your PayPal QR code like you are buying something. Then it will allow you to checkout and pay with PayPal.

If it does indeed stack with the 2% back at drug stores as the other thread suggests, that's 11% back on up to $1500.
I don't think you read the whole post...

This bonus 5% (seemingly on top of the current walmart/paypal) is news to me, maybe I need to pay more attention.
I did not receive the email though and there is no mention of an additional bonus for me. Thanks though, OP!

It appears to work the same as the Citi Custom Cash card.
You decide the top spend category by what you buy.
I wish Chase had made this offer known sooner.
I already bought a $500 VISA gift card at Walmart.
This leaves me with $1000 to use at CVS.
I will buy two $500 VISA gift cards using Paypal.
This is 9%.

I don't think PayPal or Walmart are spend categories for the "Eligible Rewards Categories." Are they? edit I got my email... "If you use PayPal, a Q4 bonus category, as a payment method for purchases in your top spend category, you will earn a total of 9%.
See FAQ for details.

These two promos appear to be in addition to one another. According to the terms, it ALSO looks like it stacks with the normal 2% back at drug stores. So you should be able to spend the full $1500 at CVS (w/PayPal) and earn 11% on the first $1000, and 7% on the next $500.

From the email,
If you use PayPal, a Q4 bonus category, as a payment method for purchases in your top spend category, you will earn a total of 9%
which leads me to think that they are capping at 9% not 11%.
In essence, they are making drugstores additional 4% instead of the standard 2%.
If it turns out to be 11%, I will be very happy.
Thanks for the reminder that the next $500 after the $1000 at CVS is still 7% which is nice as well.
That $500 VISA card purchased at Walmart cost me extra $20. :-(
