If you haven't used the Bowl Lift style mixers before, definitely go check it out in store before purchasing. It's a lot harder to add ingredients and things since the top doesn't tile. I know tons of baker people who went from the Tilt Head style to the this style and then returned it and went back because the tilting ones are much easier to use as far as placing the bowl, adding ingredients while it's running, taking off and on the beater attachments, etc.

7 qt is quite large and has a heftier motor, no doubt. For the average home cook the 5 qt or 6 qt is sufficient. It all depends how large of a batch you plan to mix all at once. I have a 6 qt that effortlessly mixes pizza dough or a large batch of Toll House or oatmeal cookies.

I think there may have been a couple of changes from metal gears to some plastic gears, but I never verified this. I've had mine for well over 10 years. Maybe 15-20 years. Been great.

I never had any issue adding ingredients for cookies, bread, or pizza dough while it's mixing in a bowl lift model.
