This is a nice little saw for trim / paneling work. Obviously it's not for heavy construction or even 1x trim. it's often been offered for about $129 with a free promo (small) DeWalt battery -- that's how I got mine. I used it for some small paneling cutting for repair in an RV and also some household trim work. Overall I was happy with the tool and assuming you already have enough batteries this is a fair deal.
While I wouldn't use it daily for these things, I've ripped 1/2 inch plywood a few times with mine. I also cut off 2x6 overhang on my shed roof. For the fascia. This is not a bad saw at all.
Great saw, purchased for the same price a few months ago. Perfect for small, quick cuts and rips, when you don't want to take out the bigger circular saw. It is ergonomic, and works great!

Debating if I should get this or the battery hack with the 7 1/4" circular saw also for the same price of $99.99.

We are talking a matter of ounces here. My 6 1/2 sits on a shelf. Pop a battery in and go.

Blades are also easier to find
7 lbs. versus 5-1/2 lbs. While the 4-1/2" saw is a pound and a half lighter, it's convenience isn't so much the weight. It's in the one-hand operation.

Agreed, blades for the larger saw are easier to find. So, if you're on a jobsite and find that you need a new blade pronto, you'd have better luck finding a blade at a local hardware store. But if you shop online, it's not an issue.

Could someone educate me on why this 4-1/2" saw is preferred over 6-1/2" circular saw? the larger one seems to be more versatile to me.
For me it's just easier to handle with one hand. And I'm not a pro or do a lot of jobs where I need the 6 1/2", but I do own an old corded one if it's ever needed. I've used the smaller one quite a bit and I like it a lot.

I don't think it's a matter of one being superior to the other necessarily, I could see lots of people preferring the larger saw because of what they need it for on a regular basis. I can't imagine too many pros bother with this smaller one, but for home DIYers it's pretty nice.

When I compare to my Makita 6 1/2". It looks like it would be better balanced than this dewalt. So even easier to use one handed. And weight about the same.

I mean, I've never used your saw, but you might want to note that the only people saying things like that are using words like "looks like".

The people that have actually used it, like it. I have no dog in this fight, I don't care if anyone buys it or not. But I'm not sure why someone would chime in that hasn't used it.

The saw's not for everyone, there's obviously overlap with a full size 6.5". If you're interested go see how it feels at a store. and whether it would be useful for you.

I feel the same way, but am resisting so far.

Yesterday I stopped at an estate sale on the way to walk my dog. Nothing I wanted, but they had 5bf of 12/4 Honduran mahogany for $5. Incredible price, but I would never use it, so I let it go. Walking my dog 3 miles it was all I could think of, so I stopped on the way home and bought it.
At least you put up a fight before you went back and bought it. Sorta?

Was anyone here lucky getting this with a free 5.0Ah battery at HD? If so, was it hackable?

What is the difference between the XR and the atomic version
"For those who do not know, DeWalt has a line of XR tools that are 20-volts and normal-sized. XR is their pro-grade selection of tools, similar to Milwaukee's FUEL line. So ATOMIC is a more compact version of their XR tools. They offer nearly the same power (not in all cases), but a smaller size, similar to how Milwaukee has an M18 (full-size) and M12 (compact) version of their tools. XR is full size, ATOMIC is compact."

Reference: https://electricianu.com/tool-rev...brushless/

That being said, I wasn't aware that DeWalt made an XR version of the 4-1/2" cordless saw.

If I bought this less than 30 days ago, can I get it price adjusted?
Yes, if it's been past 30 days, but within 3 months, just return your old one and buy this. Or if you feel bad about returning a used tool, buy this, walk out the door, back into the entrance of customer service, then return it using your old receipt.

Genuine question: do they not verify serial numbers when returning pricier items like this?

Nope. Lol, this isn't on the pricier end of things. I know stuff like the DeWalt lawnmowers have serial numbers they scan. If it just has a UPC on the outside it's not an issue. It would be a serial number barcode. This you'll be fine. Sometimes they'll open it to check that the right tool is in there... As they should.
