Honestly the 5200 is still solid, but the fact that other superior models go for this price relatively frequently (especially heading into the holidays) means that this really isn't that great of a price. A quick past-deals search will confirm this if you don't believe me btw.

An alternative POV.. this model is the one recommended by America's Test Kitchen(even over newer models) and if all you want is a solid time tested blender, this may be the better choice.

edit:FWIW, I went with this deal and I'm happy to go with this over the 7500.

Which other models would you recommend looking out for?

Even the 5200 tends to drop at least $20 lower, and often further, sometimes brand new as past deals will show. Doesn't mean it'll happen again this year, but it has been happening the same way for multiple years now, so take that as you will.

Really depends on your needs. I'd recommend doing some research and then thinking about your use-case. Differentiators include horsepower, container shape / size (wide by vs tall), smart systems with container sense, WiFi / Bluetooth capabilities, presets, extra containers, body material (plastic vs metal), warranty length (5 vs 7 vs 10 years), and pulse / no pulse button.

There are a few really good blogs that breakdown the differences and have done some really good information synthesis to help people make decisions. I'd probably start with container shape, and then work backwards from there. The taller slimmer version can make smaller quantities, but won't fit under must cabinets. The wider one may fit under your cabinets, but you need a larger volume for it to work effectively.

trouble is the 5200 never really goes on sale. and the new models aren't nearly as good as the old stand-by is. the new models don't get nearly the blend power in the bottom of the jar that the 5200 does. especially handy if you're not blending buckets of soup or smoothies every day but doing smaller amounts for regularly sized humans.

It does though. Just search the past deals.

Yeah, I do see the new one went for lower a few months ago. So this is not the absolute best deal ever. But with a 5-year warranty, it's still pretty sweet and you should need a great blender nowish, it is hard to beat.

I am fully aware of the can of worms I might be opening, but just a heads up to any Blendtec owners - we had a Blendtec Designer 650 for over 5 years before picking one of these up earlier this year (we bought to compare and keep whichever we liked best) and while both are really great blenders, we ended up keeping the Vitamix. My wife claims that it is more able to make a consistently smooth smoothie than the Blendtec, and since that is what we primarily make, the Vitamix won. It also seemed to almost always do it faster.

BOTH are great blenders, don't get me wrong. Just wanted to give an anecdote to anyone on the fence who might be coming from a similar situation.

Some of the past deals for the 5200 were for the new one which carries a 7 year warranty. I'm not trying to tell you this is an absolutely terrible price or that it's a bad product or anything. I'm just saying that waiting a bit will almost certainly net you a better deal. For anyone who wants to make sure they have one just in case of shortages, this is good enough to jump, but for someone who doesn't have a timeline it could pay to wait.

Yep, Vitamix typically wins the head-to-head comparisons with BlendTec from what I've seen. From what I've seen, Vitamix truly is the best blender on the market. I suppose there's a chance there may be some super industrial $5k blender floating around somewhere that has a wood chipper motor in it, but at most commercial smoothie places, you'll notice they use Vitamix units.

So, if I wanted to pick up a 5200 by the end of the year, do you think this is as good as it'll get, or should I hold out to see if Amazon does another deal for $279?

All Vitamix models blend equally well. When I was shopping around for my Vitamix I tried the 5200, e320, and the v1200. They all blended equally well. The difference between the different models is how loud they are and presets/features. I ended up going with the 5200. Absolutely no complaints. I use it all the time for green juices, smoothies, dips, etc. I don't see a practical use for presets or even the "chop" function which 5200 doesn't have. All Vitamix machines are very loud, but the 5200 was a little bit less loud than the other 2 I tried (there are some good youtube videos on this topic). This might not seem like much but it is a difference between potentially hurting your ears and being somewhat tolerable. The loudness is especially obvious if you use the to go containers. They seem to amplify the sound.
