Anyway, you can go on youtube and check reviews for the tools that actually have the extra contacts. And depending on the reviewer, if those extra contracts actually help the tool run better....or not.
Battery cells are 18650 in both old and new.
So, how do they do it?
A change in processor is certainly possible, but unless you have all new brush-less tools with the new connectors, the real magic comes from good old fashioned bullshiit and disingenuously comparing the new batteries to old NiMH batteries. Works every time...
I bought a compact brushless kit a couple of weeks ago (drill/impact) and neither has the new contacts in the handle.
Ryobi is not playing nice and they're hiding info from everyone. If the tool doesn't have the contacts, it can't take advantage of the HP batteries....

Yesterday a Ryobi miter saw was FP at $99. I remember getting that saw as just One of two Free tools included a $150 bundle, a couple years ago.
