Over the years, I've lost most of my confidence in amazon negative reviewers, a very high percentage of them seem to frequently be invalid complaints. For example, one of the 5 negative reviews complains that there is no microphone, but there actually is one. So: operator malfunction. The instructions say "Some features, and microphone, require software download (storage required); not supported on Mac OS." Obviously they did not follow instructions. One of the positive reviewers mentions that you have to download the software to make video adjustments to the camera, I very strongly suspect this is the source of the other 4 negative reviewers' complaints about video quality - I suspect they did not download the software either, and the camera defaults to low quality video without it. I'm leaning towards buying it myself just to see if my theory is correct.

Video quality seems excellent for video calls and casual streaming. Microphone seems pretty solid for the price point as well.

This is not a new phenomenon. I've always just filtered by 1 star and looks for educated, technical reviews. Lots of 1 star reviews are just spoiled, easy return users where its easier to return a product then spend the time to figure things out.

My Dad has a Mac Mini too, so hoping you might be able to clarify when the compatibility states that it works on Mac OS 11, but also says "microphone, require software download (storage required); not supported on Mac OS" Does that mean only the camera works, but the microphone is incompatible with Mac OS? I agree its very surprising. You go on bestbuy and same product has way better reviews (not talking about this cam) and on amazon everyone complains about random shit and gives 1/5 etc. And its not even valid complaints

This is the one I was looking at but it seems crazy that you have to download software to enable the mic and get good video quality. Lots of us have work devices that don't allow installs.

I recently bought the C920 at Target for around $50. Camera is great, but everyone I talk to says it sounds like I am in a bathroom. Still need to use my headset for them to understand me. Bummer.

Based on a video review I watched the software installed was part of the default driver installation and adds a windows settings panel as part of it. Since it's part of the windows driver registry, it might be whitelisted?
