Milwaukee Packout 3-piece storage system $229

Home Depot has a "special deal" ($50 off) the 3 system. Now $229 (was $279). Not a killer deal, but packout stuff rarely goes on sale. I've been searching for a little while. Potentially make it cheaper with purchase of HD coupon if you can find one. Hard to even find one USED for this price (especially if using a $20 coupon).

Comes with:
48-22-8426: 22 in. Rolling Toolbox ($140)
48-22-8425: 22 in. Large Toolbox ($90)
48-22-8424: 22 in. Medium Toolbox ($70)

i have a bunch of M12, M18 and their bit sets now... but man this storage system is a hard sell at this price. i'm 100% sure it's better than the Ridgid set i got a few years back, but is it >2x better? or worth it? i dunno... i beat the hell our of my Ridgid set and its still great.

one thing looking through the boxes i noticed is that the top box doesn't have separate bins on the sides, looks like they're 3 bins connected together on each side... that kinda sucks, i use the separate bins in the Ridgid box all the time.

Thx for the advice....I'll take a look when it gets here. Problem is, the 3 piece set of Ridgid is sold out, and purchasing the individual items comes to about $150...so I guess it's closer in price now to the $209 I paid.

I have both and here are my two cents. I was fortunate enough to get three packout systems for a very good price at Home Depot last year and the Ridgid I have had for 3 years.

They are both good. Yea the packout is more versatile with all their different types of bins and slide out drawers but unless you're really using it on the daily, the Ridgid is fine.

Packouts are larger and more robust. But does a homeowner need bigger or stronger than the Ridgid? Maybe a contractor who is throwing them in and out of the truck all day...

A big advantage of the Packouts is the wide variety of boxes and accessories that are available, where the Ridgid options are pretty limited.

I personally don't like the middle box in this deal. If you fill its cavernous volume, it weighs too much to carry and there are many instances where I don't want to have to roll in the whole stack.

I've found the Ridgid or DeWalt small boxes to be a nearly perfect size for most power tools, and their accessories, that I regularly use - but will pick up some of the Packout half boxes if I ever see them at a good price.

Do we think this will get any cheaper as Black Friday/Christmas approaches?

Yes. It will. $199. Crate option should be $179.

Home owner here. I have the Dewalt version and this looks much sturdier. The Dewalt bottom box started bulging out from the little weight I had in the top two boxes and the dolly handle is sketchy. I don't even use it for tools anymore. I remove the top two boxes and added the ice cooler, the radio and the bank charger and use it for cook outs. It gets a lot of attention as a novelty and that is about it.

Thanks, yeah I saw that and those are really handy for the small things. What I really want to replace the medium box with is a couple of these for individual power tools: https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Pro...48-22-8422

These are quite sturdy. I needed an elevated work station to install some overhead lighting and stacked up 7 large packout boxes with the crate on top for this purpose. I even kept the tools inside the boxes since it was a 1 day use. No issues. No bulging.

The bottom two with a open crate will be priced, or is already, at $199

Just my personal opinion, this is superseded by their 2 wheel dolly that you can fit the same packout boxes on with the option of not having to lug the large toolbox around if you don't need it. That's one of the "downsides" to this OG model is that it's always there. On the other hand if you're not moving it around a lot then it doesn't matter.

Tempting to grab one of these but will prob wait to see if there's a better deal. I need a good system to organize tools/parts etc though. We recently moved to a new place - I was somewhat spoiled at our last place, which had a workbench with drawers, etc where I could hide stuff. Not so at the new place... unless I want to have storage cabinets put in. I like being able to stay modular though.
