My 2 cents: "interference" may not due to "slim design", but rather due to shorter runs of less than one metre. Longer twisted pairs helps cancel any interference. Cheers!

Haha, it's not the 1 foot of length that matters, its the voltage drop of the 1 foot patch cable between the 200 foot+ run.

Cat6a uses 23 gauge wire, going to 30 will result in more significant voltage drop and wire heating. I'm not saying don't use, just be aware of the limitations.

AV/IT crowd: I'm assuming this length is mostly for patch panels/crowded rack interconnects...does the slim design make it more susceptible to interference?

Not really? If there's a 200ft run and a 1ft patch in there somehow, the voltage/IR drop will only be worth 1ft , so same minimal impact.

I have 10' Monoprice slim cables going to a patch panel for POE AP's and have had no challenges.

Thanks for the info. Not that it matters much in my case, it's just between my modem and router, and Google Nest all on the same shelf...at least I don't think it matters there?

Not at all in that situation. Really only a problem with higher power POE+ devices.

100% Accurate.

Longer runs are better at noise and crosstalk suppression but at the speeds and frequencies we use these it will not matter.

For those that don't know, UTP/STP cabling has 4 "twisted pairs" of cabling inside. Each pair has a different twist rate or "tpi" "twists per inch".

That way the emi / rf cannot crosstalk onto the adjacent pair. It insures they'll almost certainly be out of phase with each other.

Pull the shielding off a cable and look at the Orange pair and the blue pair, as an example, you'll see one is more tightly "twisted" than the other, for this reason.

"the more you know."
