Note that seller, Gambacicli, is based in Italy and has been on the internet since 1999 (see below). They also offer UPS shipping to the United States at a fairly reasonable price. So, in Euros, the Garmin 1030 Plus is 385.24 € + 21.50 € UPS Intl Shipping = 406.74 € which converts to $471.48 USD (at today's current FX rate)... which is about as low as I've ever seen it sold. Keep in mind that many card issuers charge a small extra fee when using a foreign currency outside the USA, so you might want to check prior to ordering.

Daily Steals (USA) has it for slightly more if you'd rather order there.
If you'd prefer to buy within the US, then I found the Garmin 1030 Plus on Daily Steals for $510.14 with Free Shipping after 5% email/cell # discount code signup. [dailysteals.com] I tried the code I received for signing up, so I can confirm it currently works.

Here is an excellent review by DC Rainmaker on the 1030 Plus, if you're intersted:

Not knocking you Tots....you make some of the best bike related posts around, and you are extremely knowledgeable.

Having said that, why do I need this...is it in case I get lost? Isn't Strada (which I don't use) effective? I skimmed/read the million page long review and the myopic author never explained why I would want this.

Thanks... Well, I'm always buying bike s*** so I do stumble onto some fairly great deals from time to time. Personally, I have the Edge 1000 and love it. I have it paired to Garmin rear radar light (the RTL 510). I love the larger screen, but the Edge 1030 and now the 1030 Plus have gradually and incrementally improved on the original Edge 1000 design. One of the big differences on the 1030 Plus vs the 1030 and esp the 1000 is the battery life. The 1000 has more than enough battery life for the riding I tend to do (usually not more than 30 miles per ride), but if you want to do a much longer ride... maybe something where you're riding on the road (vs the trail) and actually need GPS directions, then the 1030 Plus with its bigger screen and massive battery life are hard to beat (esp when paired with Garmins's rear radar light for better safety on the road).

All of the above said, and as much as I spend on bike accessories, there hasn't been enough improvement on the Edge 1030 Plus to justify me upgrading from my Edge 1000 --- at the current price point. If you don't have an Edge 1000 series, then this is a great deal. You're going to be hard pressed to find a lower price at least until Garmin comes out with it's next unit to replace the 1030 Plus (there are rumors about a 1040 in the near future, but near future could be over a year away). So, to me, the Edge 1030 Plus is worth it at this price point if you don't already have an Edge 1000 series or a higher end smaller model like the Edge 800.

Oh, and as far as the GPS maps are concerned, they work quite well... again, I don't need them for the trail riding I do, but if you're riding a long distance on the road, then they're especially nice. You can always use your internet connected phone if you're trying to find some specific business location or something else that requires Google Maps, for ex, but for turn by turn directions on the road, it's very hard to beat the 1030 Plus. In addition, I believe Garmin upgraded the map logic to include routing of roads that are more lightly traveled and safer for bicyclists if you use the 1030 Plus to map your route to a specific destination. Other than that, the DC Rainmaker review is excellent if you're considering a purchase.

I know they all have access to the same map downloads but, does anyone know if the model numbers or capabilities are different for models outside the US?

Never shop with this vendor. Beaware if you cancel an order, they will double charge you and then give you one refund. After all, you are still charged one time.
