I have the M12 version of this driver; Surge is less powerful than a regular impact, but the lessened fatigue from a more comfortable noise level is game-changing. I have 3 M12 Fuel hex impacts (to avoid repetitive bit changes on some tasks); I always reach for the Surge first. Would love to have the M18.

Could I just buy the kit and get the free tool then return the kit and keep the tool in store? use different credit card and repeat the process or just get more of the same tool?

I just picked up Surge/Battery combo today. I watched some reviews on Surge and it seems to me normal Fuel (Gen III Impact) version is more powerful and loud. Surge is medium to low power but very quite. I already have Bosch Impact driver (which is really loud), so I decided to pick up Surge for in-house use. More quiter and does not require much power of an impact driver.

Another great thing about Surge is speed control is so much easier Smilie
