The above said, I don't disagree with you that at this price point - what do you expect? I still have a s-load of electronic items that use Micro USB... and I still occasionally curse out loud when I try to plug a Micro USB device in with the cable end pointed in the wrong direction.

I think the complaints of micro-usb are legit. I still have micro-usb stuff but prefer usb-c by far. My mouse/keyboard/headset are all micro-usb and bought in the last 1-2 years (Logitech and steelseries). Kind of annoying.
One alternative though for the PITA connector would be a magnetic cable or adapter. Bought one recently for my father in law who has Parkinson's and he likes it a lot. Makes it easy to charge things now - similar to how apple magsafe works. The set I bought has a low profile dongle for the micro-usb port (came with usb-c and lightning adapters too) and two round ends that don't have to be oriented any way specifically.
