Why the hell did they step down the resolution for the newer model?

I really want one of these but the magnet mount with no way to drill it down means it can get smacked off by a stick. Wish they had a more permanent mount option.

Isn't that 2k = 1440p? And 1080p is newer? Or I don't understand

Smacked off with a stick, covered with paint, or a towel...that can happen with any camera; doesn't matter if it's mounted with a bolt. You'll have an alert and video footage stored in the app.

Get the wireless battery one, then. Put it as high as you can and thieves wouldn't be able to reach it. It's not that much more expensive than these wired ones.

So, I thought the same thing, but the metal plate has a little loop to keep the female micro USB connector pinned against the wall/surface that the metal plate is either screwed or VHB taped to, so even if they knock the camera off, it'll just be dangling below the mount, from the cable/mounting plate.

However, you're much more limited with the angles you can position this outdoor camera, vs the 2K Indoor. I've had over a dozen of the 2K indoor cams and P&T model outside, just under the edges of the eves, under a beam on the patio, etc, and haven't had any die yet in a year and a half, and none of them are really protected from the elements. I've had two or three randomly die after a windy rain storm, but they fired right back up as soon as they dried out and were power cycled.

One of the pros about the Outdoor 2K is that, at this price point of $75, by the time you factor in $6-7 for a 20' USB cable, and $12-18 for a new UV resistant glass lens for the Indoor 2K (OOS on Amazon right now), plus your time swapping the lens, you're only saving about $15-25. If the Outdoor 2K included a 128GB microSD card, it would actually be a great deal at this price point.

You can look up what your UV index will be, thru-out the day, and if you have any of the Indoor 2K cameras facing towards the sun, between 12-5ish during the summer, like where I'm at in the PNW, then the plastic lens will become foggy over the course of about a year. Luckily, I only have one pointed straight and level to the south on a tree trunk, that's gotten destroyed by the UV rays.

Not with these. Storage is local on-device. This does not use HomeBase.

The key is finding an appropriate height that makes the camera relatively safe from attacks but also low enough to actually be useful. If you put your camera near the roof of a 2 story house it's pretty useless looking at the tops of people's faces and the roof of passing cars.
