I'm not sure about the initial purchase discount but I ended my membership earlier this year after they stopped giving the in store 10% membership discount on the criterion sale

Quality is shit in most streams. You're paying for picture and sound as well

I'm not crapping on anyone that wants physical copies, but that's not really a valid argument. VHS? VCD? 240p YouTube videos? Sure, that's shit quality, but streaming services these days deliver very good picture and sound quality. I have a soft spot for physical media, but streaming quality is more than good enough for most people.

I preordered a few of them last week when the sale started. If the disc is coming out during the sale you can get it for 50% off. Even preorders

What I mean was lower than current prices by black Friday
It's possible you will see some titles go on sale at Amazon and Target. I think last year they had some Criterion movies in a buy 2 get one free offer. I wouldn't wait though if there's a movie you really want since they tend to sell out in sales like this if you hesitate.

You're right, streaming has come a long way, and it's only going to get better as codecs improve. The thing is, when you buy a movie you own it. Nobody is going to come into your house (at least I hope not) and replace your copy with a more socially acceptable version of the times. There are also delistings of movies on services like Vudu when a movie changes hands in ownership the rights to a soundtrack could cause the move to be removed. There's also the issue of HDR being faked on streaming services like Disney and Netflix.

So many of these are great. The criterion transfers are worth it! On my LG OLED and (this is the key) Atmos setup, I actually prefer a good transfer Blu ray physical to most 4k streams. The audio is that much better and these compression of most streams is pretty noticable. Gonna head to a physical BN for the first time in awhile. Thanks!
I don't get the obsession with 4K and HDR. I'd rather have a good transfer and image quality over a crappy 4K/HDR "remaster". On top of that, most crappy HDTVs with HDR processing do a poor job of handling it, but most don't realize this. At this point, I've realized a lot of consumers just follow standards blindly. I recall over hearing someone telling another person to upgrade to a 4K TV because they would get better picture quality watching live TV - you know the content that isn't even in 1080p...

Then, why are you in this thread? What's the point of mentioning streaming? You're able to stream every movie ever made? People who buy physical media ain't most people.

Use code SAVE20 for orders over $60. Not for pre-Orders, but works on titles already in stock.

I was responding to someone who said streaming was garbage quality. There are justifiable reasons for preferring physical media, but picture/sound quality isn't a valid criticism these days.
