Pretty much. For $20-26, Amazon Basics (which look oddly like APC knockoffs) offer 4k+ joules and longer cords (which could come into play in college dorm rooms).

Ports looks spaced out. Why do you think all outlets can't be used? The one I bought amazon have all ports opposite each other & is a cramped

This was never intended as the best 12 outlet surge protector money can buy, but rather the least 12 outlet surge protector you could or should purchase for the price. I posted this in part to counter so many of the shilled power strips on Slickdeals which are neither good deals nor good power strips. I hope everyone has found this to be an OK product on offer for a good price.

Good luck!
Jon

Isn't 1200 joules pretty low? Doesn't list the equipment coverage.

Thanks for the input. Any suggestions for approx. the same joules, but a flat/right-angle plug?

Configuration is also crap, you'll realistically only get to use about half of those outlets. Better wait for something stronger and better.

Not seeing the clamping voltage here... anyone know what it is?

Need a new surge protector but gotta know the clamps since it'll be for some pricey electronics.

Honest question: are power surges as much of a problem as they used to be? Particularly in neighborhoods with underground power lines?

The past two homes we've lived in (over 20 years) had underground power lines, and I don't remember ever dealing with power surges damaging our equipment.

Granted, we usually used surge protectors, but I probably wasn't diligent about making sure they had enough protection (or any protection — some of them were probably just power strips).

So not sure it's as much of an issue in these neighborhoods. But also possible I'm just lucky.

Yeah, it was just a daily deal from 1am yesterday until 12:59am today. The deal was over the moment it hit 1:00am on October 30th. OP was a bit late, I'd say but no offense to him/her.

You may be lucky, but there is indeed a lot of variance around the country. Even your categorization of underground power lines doesn't distinguish between a swanky master-planned community in Florida or a typical Manhattan high-rise (neither has above ground power, but that could be where the similarities end!). Having lived in a number of states, many of my protection schemes were indeed forged in a brownout-prone, weather-impacted area of the Gulf Coast. At the same time, I've benefited from this regime in other places where I did notice that the general population response was indeed "why would I need a UPS/surge protector/etc. ?"

You certainly don't have to protect every device you own (though doing so is easier than ever). Rather, you can weigh your protection budget vs. your own experience and set a value from there (even starting with 5-10% can give a lot of budget when you're dealing with that nice OLED TV, for example).

Good luck!
Jon
