get this or mini 2 for $419? first time owning one.. thank you
Is the mini 2 the fly more combo? I got the $200 refurb original mini, and after one flight wish I'd held out for a fly-more combo. If you aren't certain about the use case, or it's just for fun, the Mini 2 is all you need. If you're going to fly in higher winds or know you'll be doing serious photography in questionable conditions (poor light, for ex), then the Air.

IMHO, the over/under 250g limit is a trivial marker. It's $5 to register your 250+g drone, and you're subject to the same regulations as a recreational flyer. If you decided to publish any pictures or footage (youtube, for ex) or use the drone for any non-recreational purpose you need a part 107 license regardless of the weight. (Part 107 is easy to pass, but expensive - $100+ -and takes about 2-4 hours to take the test, including travel to and from a testing site).

Can dji drones fly in the rain (are they waterproof)?
I have flown mine in light rain, in Hawaii rain can come suddenly without warning, and it was fine, though the drone is not waterproof. YMMV.

This. It is much modes flexible and if you get caught in heavier wind, the air 2 will perform better. Trust me when I say that you don't want to watch your drone stop moving forward in a heavy wind at the edge of a volcano only to watch it land itself on the caldera floor with all your lava video. Not fun at all.

I also recommend practicing emergency procedures, such as switching to sport mode and changed altitude to find friendlier pockets of air. I also recommend multiple memory chips so you can remove them after flight so you don't lose a chip full of volcano videos for multiple flights because you were cheap.

Fortunately I learned my lesson and my next drone did not end up on the floor of the caldera.

Probably the Mini 2, if only because this one requires FAA registration. Maybe step up later.
It is an easy process to register and I believe it is only like five bucks. I would personally recommend this over the mini but sometimes budget is what it is.

I bought stickers with my FAA number and phone number that I put on the drone.

Difference between this one? Looks identical. Sellers are different. Also, noticed maximum control range and UPC numbers are different? Not sure that's accurate.

I fly a Spark higher than 400 weekly. Are you sure you've set the max altitude correctly in the app, or is there something about this drone's weight that sets it apart? That seems like a major drawback

Looked into it - there's a hard cap of 500 metres on the MA2. You might be thinking of the FAA rec drone limits? If so, and you're a rules stickler, then yes, 400ft above a nearby structure's highest point is the limit.

Meanwhile, the Spark goes up to 1000ft easily, and the MA2 can reach over 15,000, based on controlled airspace lockdowns and clear lines for control.

yes that's what i was referring to. even if I'm outside the city the thing won't go past 400ft. my friends have them. i have the autel robotics one and there's no FAA restrictions on it but i don't like it for other reasons but i guess I'm stuck with it

Killer deal with the insurance Smilie I think this is probably the best price to performance ratio for a foldable drone right now.

If you're in the US, turns out you're legally allowed to responsibly surpass 400ft and go up till "visual line of sight". There's a setting in the DJI app you can change to remove the 400ft restriction. Refer to FAA sec. 336.
Enjoy!

the app is geo locked regardless because even though i can be outside the city but still close enough that it restricts it. i don't fly out in the woods so it's not very useful for me unfortunately
