This was $399 at Costco B&M about a month ago. I happened upon it when my chest freezer died after 5 years of hard life in the garage. IMHO it doesn't have enough shelves, which forces you to stack things on top of each other. I remember seeing another model at local Costco that is all drawers also for $399, but unfortunately it was gone when I needed one.
The Arctic King 7cf that keeps popping up on SD is manual defrost only, and I've seen a lot of uprights that don't auto defrost. Bonus, they're also significantly cheaper than the autos.

I'm actually looking for an auto. Although I've heard - but not confirmed - that food doesn't last as long, I'm not aiming for months of storage. I just want a supplement to my tiny kitchen freezer. It's for Costco pizza, not a deer.

Definitely a good price! (I'd nibble but I got the 6.5 Frigidaire for 199 deal awhile back, so far it's still workingSmilie )

I've been looking for the biggest upright freezer that I can get with the smallest footprint. The price was right on this one so I bit.
Trying to find a user manual online. Wanted to know if you can swap the door to either swing left or swing right. Wondering if you can put two of these side-by-side in refrigerate and freezer mode and have handles for each in the middle.

Upright freezers seem great for convenience but aren't most/all frost free operation? I have a small chest freezer I'm looking to upgrade and was considering upright. However, frost free has me nervous that food won't last near as long due to the temperature fluctuations.

I bought cheap baskets from Walmart so I can easily remove stuff from it. The ones I bought can stack if need be.

Does anyone have any opinions on auto vs. manual defrost?

Manual seems like a pain to me. I would love the convenience of autodefrost, I'm a little worried about the potential issues, but suspect they might be overblown for standard usage?

We're reasonably standard, though we do occasionally have steaks or something that might stay in the freezer for as long as a year.

Personally, I'd get the cheaper manual defrost and buy some "damp rid" to absorb the moisture so you don't get frost buildup... best of both worlds and it's really not much hassle

Excellent idea. Do you just lay the damp rid on top of inside perpendicular or along vert wall ? My chest freezer is always packed

Auto defrost imo is a terrible idea for longevity of meats. I've defrosted once in a year and that was more just realizing I'd turned off the (weirdly placed) 20a circuit at AC box a couple days prior. laugh out loud i occasionally scrape frost for a couple minutes.

I bought it as a small plastic bucket package...then I buy bags to refill the bucket/bowl as needed.

What's damp rid? Cloth that absorbs moisture?
