I got these during the $100 deal. While I do like them, if you plan on using these behind your television set, I'd probably get the gradient light strip instead. Also one critical thing is that they all plug into the same power supply and do not have their own separate one so they will need to be in the vicinity of each other although the cable is pretty long. The light is not as bright as I was hoping. Although, this price isn't bad. I think investing in the light strip is just a better idea.

Does this work well without the sync box?

Having personally watched prices on these hue play lights, I can say that approx $40 per light is about the lowest you'll get even pre owned. Good deal OP. Thanks for sharing.

cheapest was $100 for same item, ? 6 months ago at Costco...but seems like prices are higher on all Hue products than prior sales (ie. light strips too), so probably best going to find for now

I think that $100 was an all time low. Sold out so quickly too. If it's possible to find such a price then of course that's better, but even eBay doesn't sell them for $100 used.

How do you use it exactly? You can only make the lighting match what is playing through the TV with the sync box right? Do you just have them on behind a tv? Or just around the house?

I have a set of these, and have used them for about six months. I do not have a Sync box, and do not want the gradient strip (as a light, it only does one color, and when synchronized to the TV, it's too distracting for anyone but three-beers-in me).

This is useful for putting three lights behind your TV to apply a 'glow' to the wall to add to your room scene. It lights up an entire 11 ft. wall with ease, and you can put three separate colors on it, a 'gradient' across the space, etc. It's a great way to add colored light to an area that normally wouldn't see a lamp. The builder of my house was very sparse on lighting, so between this, a ceiling fan, and lamps on the opposite side of the room, I get a good 'spread' of light throughout.

Think of it as three separate A19 Hue bulbs, but with a wider spread, and mounting equipment to go behind a TV, on a shelf, etc. You can use a sync box, but IMO that's an overpriced toy, whereas these provide ambiance at 1/3 the cost.

They work like regular smart lights- it's the shape that makes them handy for behind a tv, but there are better options. These are great for fill lighting and wash lights, for wca

Good price if you are in the Hue system already or are looking to buy-in. If you are using these without the sync box, look on Amazon or your favorite direct from China supplier. Govee and other companies offer comparable (non-synced) light bars for less than half this price.

I got these by accident last Black Friday (meant to get the rope lights) and ended up loving them. They're behind a record player shelf and the colors are somehow just so much nicer than the cheap rope lights I had previously. Plus hue is one of the few options that works with HomeKit.

There is a sync app that I use on my Nvidia shield that works really well for everything other than DRM content like Netflix or YouTube
