Rats! I'd bite on the $300 Win10 one if it was dual channel RAM. Otherwise specs are the same - including IPS.

By the way, I've read that Windows 11 ABSOLUTELY REQUIRES you log into an account... no local accounts like Windows 10. I'd go for the older model and decide on 11 later if the RAM thing didn't matter.
What are the big benefits a general use laptop like this would get from 11? I was figuring on staying on 10 until they cut me off for these iGPU general use laptops.

Would this be a decent option for someone needing a PC for web surfing and annual tax software?

Not sure about benefits but there are many complaints on 11, especially its taskbar. Windows has a track record of a flop version after a successful one - think vista, 8. I would hopefully sit out 11 or at least stay on 10 until 2025 when they stop updating.

I WAS interested in the potential Android app capability on 11, but after scoring a C340 for $74 and playing with a real chromebook, I've found that all the apps I need won't even run on a Chromebook. Overpromise and underdeliver why don't ya?? I wish I had my 74 bucks back.

Get the 10 model and a free updrade later.

Would this be a good laptop for a daily use? Youtube, internet and basic use? Would it be an issue to upgrade the Ram to 16GB?

how easy is it to upgrade the HD?
I've been running laptops for 10 years with 1TB HD's.
I guess you mean the M.2 SSD. Although it may have space for a HD that requires a cable. Not sure about that.
You have to remove the back cover. You can find youtube videos on how to do it. There are screws under the rubber pads. Then you have access to the RAM and the M.2.

If a HD is possible you may have to remove the battery for access to it. It does not come with a fastener for the HD or the required cable so you would have to tape it in place. Not seen a video of someone doing that. So it might be possible or not be possible.

I'm a primarily Chromebook user, but I don't use any Android apps. Chromebooks provide well more than enough benefits to me to be my primary web machine.

I can find no difference at all between these two. Do not know the member price. So the price may be different.

Both have 1 8GB stick of DDR4-2666.

Can anyone tell me if either of these would be good for a kid starting to experiment with 2d animation? My 13 yo has shown interest, but idk for how long 🙂
Should be sufficient. 2d is not that hard. This is a powerful processor.
