Been researching fitness trackers to replace my Charge 3. Sense has bad/mixed reviews and Fitbit has had quality issues with every tracker I've bought over the years.
I have heard great things about Garmin products and my research convinced me to buy this one over Charge/Versa/Sense. I didn't want a big, round watch but there's some great Garmin round watches too (Vivoactive 4 and Venu were on my shortlist).
Plus I don't want to pay Fitbit a monthly subscription to get access to my own advanced fitness data. Garmin makes it all available for free - that's the way it should be.
Apple watch is fully blown smartwatch, essentially your iPhone on the wrist. Yes, it has basic fitness tracking functionality, but that's exactly what it is: basic.
Garmin is first and foremost fitness tracker, designed and optimized for this purpose. Yes, it has some basic smartwatch functionality, but it it's a few very basic things.
Don't get me wrong: both are great products, they are just designed for different purposes.

For ad-hoc GPS directions, there are other devices which does a better job of guidance.

My VA3 almost died after more than 3+ years.
Looking for Garmin watch.
Should I go for VA4 or Venu SQ

I replaced my Moto 360 Sport with a Venu and it's night vs. day. I can go for a weekend camping and not bring the charger or even think about it. The OLED screen is brilliant and the interface is very effective. The integration to online trackers like MapMyrun is very solid.
Ignore the "its not a true Smartwatch"; it is and that's not sensible anyway. Short battery life, poor fitness tracking, and massive overpricing are not required to be a smartwatch. Here's the Garmin app store: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/devices/venu/apps to look over and see if it has what you want.
The bargain is the last gen Venu at $199: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Sma...B07WLN9RY
