Deal Details
Capital One is launching its first-ever premium travel credit card, Venture X

Here are the initial card details of the Venture X card:

Welcome bonus: The Venture X will launch with an offer of 100,000 bonus miles after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first six months, and for a limited time, cardholders can also get up to $200 in statement credits for vacation rental purchases like Airbnb and Vrbo charged to their account within the first year.

Earning: The Venture X will earn 10 miles per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked via Capital One Travel, 5 miles per dollar on flights booked via Capital One Travel and an unlimited 2 miles per dollar on everything else.

Statement credit: Up to $300 back in statement credit annually for bookings made through Capital One Travel.

Anniversary bonus: 10,000 bonus miles every account anniversary, starting on your first anniversary (worth $100 toward travel).

Lounge access: Complimentary access for cardholders, authorized users and up to two guests per visit to Capital One Lounges and to more than 1,300 Priority Pass lounges worldwide.

Authorized users: Up to four authorized users can be added at no charge, and AUs get Capital One Lounge access with up to two guests.

Global Entry or TSA PreCheck: Up to $100 in statement credits for either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.

Annual fee:
$395.

Application link: https://www.capitalone.com/credit...venture-x/

This looks like a great card for travel compared to Chase Sapphire Reserve and Amex Platinum. Especially I like the lower annual fee part and the sign up bonus also looks generous.

Pointsguy estimated the value around $1850 .
TPG has a reputation for, among other things, exaggerating the average value of points/miles. Remember, he and the company he sold out the site to make a lot of money simply by inducing people to apply for specific offers for specific credit cards.

Getting $1850 out of the bonus is possible, but well beyond a 'normal' redemption to a significant degree.

I got charged for my annual fee by CSR on Nov. 1.

How long so I have to get that fee refunded and downgrade to a free CC?
It's 30 days from the charge date. I spent the $300 statement credit before downgrading and they did not reverse the $300 credit. So, you should probably consider using that $300 credit before downgrading.

I agree. I am new to Capital one and never used the points for redemption. As a result, relying on third party sources for guidance.

Thank you. What is the best use of the points to get the $1850 value. Will the priority access allow non rev entry without a seat assignment? Also, can you transfer points to Alaska airlines, for the cheap Florida to Caribbean flights on American airlines? Thanks again, thank you slick deals.
Sorry, I don't have first hand experience redemption of these points. So, please refer to the points guy or other sources for information.

Hopefully someone who have Capital one Venture card might chime in.

Thanks for the info and the heads up about the $300 credit before downgrading.

Looks like I'll go ahead and keep my CSR if the statement credit of this Cap1 card is only $500.

As a cash-back program it's pretty poor.
While I fully agree that TPG loves to over-estimate points values, I think if you're doing even a modest amount of travel spend the card makes sense, at least as a "catch-all" card. Getting 1¢/point on travel spend makes it a 2% back card without a ton of hassle so long as you offset travel spend with the points (instead of a direct statement credit.) That's about the top end for non-category spend without having to jump through a fair amount of hoops. The transfer partners mentioned also appear to have at least a couple of sweet spots, so there's a small potential for getting a little extra that way. However, I still wouldn't value the points much beyond 1¢/point unless there's a specific redemption in mind that would be done anyways.

Edit: I'm blind apparently. For anyone wondering about card shipping speed: "Your new Capital One Venture X card should arrive in approximately 3 business days."

Is the first annual fee charged right away or after 12 months?

Indeed he has a vested interest in promoting the card, I'm sure hes directly or indirectly via his links and getting paid for it. TPG's reviews = gain of salt. at best a guidance thats it.

100k points =

$500 in credit statement OR
$800 in gift cards (physical, no digital unless you link to Amazon or Paypal for redemption) OR
$1000 in travel reimbursement or spend through their agency portal

You can transfer to partners - BA and hotels are 1:1, most other major airlines are 0.8:1 (800 miles for 1000 Venture points).

TPG getting $1850 equivalent is like saying Marriott points are a good deal - only if you use them in a very, very limited way. Ex: if you use BA points to fly American on AASaver fares for direct, shot flights within CONUS then, yes, worth it. As a cash-back program it's pretty poor.
The cash redemption rate kills the deal. Booking through OTAs are categorically bad and cancerous for any travel arrangement. Also, top kek at anyone taking TPG seriously other than for entertainment. Credit card bloggers are not writing anything for your benefit, they're "niche" and "alternative" sales channels paid by bank affiliates for each successful approved application.

This is not entirely accurate. The miles earned can be used for almost any travel expense and this includes the bonus miles. The $300 annual travel credit is the only reward that has to redeemed through Cap One Travel. For anyone that travels at least once per year this card is a no-brainer. The bonuses easily cover the card fee and one will get at least 2% back on all purchases. I have the regular Venture with the $95 fee and I plan to product change without the sub. The new Venture X easily beats Chase Sapphire Reserve and imho it blows Amex Platinum out of the water.

That's not true on transfer ratios. Most airlines are 1:1 except one airline (EVA).

Interesting - that has changed in the past month. I have the venture and was looking to cash out and just about everything but wyndham and BA was 800miles:1000 points. AirFrance/KLM is currently 1200mile:1000points (ends 12/1/21) . The change may be for the VentureX launch; I would not trust C1 to keep these redemptions. If you are planning to transfer, I would MS to the 10k as fast as possible and roll the points if that's where you think you'll use them. FWIW, my Venture bonus wasn't awarded until after my billing cycle ended, even though it was paid off early...so don't count on getting the points before the 31 days.

It's also worth noting that there are no direct US carriers in the transfer portal.

Note: I like Capital One for the single-use credit card number and the ability to have those numbers auto-expire on a date I set. I just don't think their bonus programs are all that if you're sole redemption isn't through bill credits for travel.
