If this works for you, more power to you. All I'm saying is with this amount, your body will be used to thinking this is what it will constantly have. Thus making the body not produce that much natural melatonin which makes you more reliant on the bottle. Just my 2 cents.
As a sleep therapist, 10 mg is quite a large amount.
As a sleep enthusiast, 10mg does the trick especially with quick release caps.

I think they work faster. I have bought this brand multiple times from Amazon, and I definitely recommend it. the price is amazing for the amount compared to other brands that work just the same
This is a stupid high dose. This is a hormone, don't forget.
Your body only needs so much to saturate receptors and after that the excess just takes longer to get out of your system. High dosing usually means for a groggier morning.
There is a lot of science to this.
0.3mg time release dosing if you're older is what makes sense. https://news.mit.edu/2005/melatonin
It's also controversial to even supplement at all if you've heard Hubermans take on it. 10mg is probably really not good for you in the long run.
The last guy would have done 10 things since then which would have made everyone forget about it. For the record I didn't care for the last guy and this one sucks too.
I hate how large the doses are in most over the counter melatonin capsules. Every number I've seen in studies are like 1mg or lower, but it's tough to get anything lower than 3. 10 is ridiculous, to the point where I couldn't even split the pill properly.
Considering a small shard of a 3mg knocks me out, I doubt 10mg is anything less than absolute overkill.
Edit: Oh, they're capsules, so even harder to split up properly unless you wanna like divide up the dust inside. Great deal, but it seems like you're going to be taking a huge dose or putting a lot of time into dividing it up.
How do you "Self order" lab work. Seriously, I'm trying to track my selenium and my endo will not request selenium lab work and Quest won't do the test without a Dr order. When my wife asked her GP to add selenium to the lab work she also refused saying she would not know what to do with the results. So, I think this is a liability issue for them. If they they order a test and don't take action on the results perhaps they could be faulted for not addressing an issue exposed by the order they placed for the lab work. Anyway, if you could elaborate on how to self order D3, Selenium, etc. I would really appreciate it.

this. I used to take 10mg, then I could not sleep at all when I switched to 5mg, but I weened myself to 3mg quick dissolve tablets from amazon.
cheap, and now that I finally adjusted down. I sleep again, I slept like a champ on 10mg's but I required it at afterwards for a long time

to everyone who quoted me. this is exactly what i was referring to. Huberman's podcast goes in depth on why melatonin is detrimental. something i've known for a while but to not the extent of affecting dopamine. upon further research, the claims are more factually based than not. my previous mentions of possibly affecting anxiety and depression are also true and what i've known since my inception of starting to take melatonin exogenously.
it is known that high dose melatonin can be neuroprotective. but that is in certain cases and not meant to be done daily.. as in 10mg/night. noone should regularly dose this amount nightly. it should be used for "certain" instances.
it is a hormone and can down regulate natural production, while also messing with the bodies natural circadian rhythms. we should look to augment sleep in other ways that do not predispose the body to hormonal imbalances further affecting different pathways that one not might entirely know about.
yes we need sleep. but we need restful sleep that will make us be awake and alert enough to "hunt" the next day. allow your eyes to absorb natural sunlight daily via direct sunlight not inhibited by a window or glass. bluelight filters, dim lights past 7pm is the way to move towards sleep efficiency. and look into other modalities for supplementation!
if you must use melatonin...try the 300mcg method. it works better than you might think
