I just canceled my UN9070 order from Costco for this model.

After some research, the differences are:
- UP8770 has a7 Gen4 processor vs Gen3 on UN9070
- UP is 2021 line and UN is 2020 line
- UP8770 has TruMotion 240 and UN9070 does not
- UP8770 has thinner borders and overall width
- UP8770 has lower weight

I think the number of HDMI 2.1 ports are the same between these two. Costco's website has some errors. The differences are definitely worth ~$60 additional cost to me.

It really depends on your budget and how much you value improvements in picture quality.

I was convinced I wanted a QLED or OLED until I watched videos and saw the TVs in person. Then I realized that I just love a big screen. I find it terrific for sports, gaming immersion, and movies. But that's me.

Most of us going for TVs like this can't tell much of a difference between TVs like this one and better TVs or we don't care enough to shell out for the better ones. But we care enough about size to spend the extra for this size - we could get a 75" for far less with a better picture.

The Sony is better and more expensive. Do you want features such as FALD in an 85" TV? Then Sony is the way to go and probably worth the extra $550 or more. If you barely notice the difference between these TVs or don't find the difference significant enough (as I do) then the LG is a much better value.

They sell in wall wire kits on Amazon for about 60 bucks. Doesn't really require any actual electrical work since it just uses a power cable plugged in to a nearby outlet. Fairly straightforward if u are ok with some minor drywall work.
Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that. I'm not the most handy but willing to try if it's not too difficult.

If I install a mount, does it have to be screwed into a stud behind the wall? I assume yes since the TV is about 100 lbs.

Yes. Absolutely needs to be secured to the studs. You can pick up a stud finder for 10 bucks or so and make your life easier.

For cutting drywall for new electical work boxes, a box cutter makes a cleaner cut versus a drywall saw...

Umm.. no.

8770 is direct lit as well...

Not sure why the weight matters, but the 9070 is a couple pounds lighter, not heavier...
Confused as it is clearly mentioned on Costco website as Edge lit. There is a filter on the results page for direct lit and edge lit and this one shows up in Edge lit. The UN9070 shows up in direct lit. But on LG site it shows direct lit.

In the specs sheet linked on the Costco site for this TV, it says it is Direct lit, contradicting what Costco says. Also, the Costco site says in has a Gen 3 processor, but the spec sheet says Gen 4. I'll be pissed if this is a Black Friday special with lesser features.

Thank you both for the links. Looks like I have some research to do into this mounting/wiring project.

I think my current IKEA stand will fit a TV this big, so if I buy the TV, I may let it sit on the stand for a while so I can see how I like it and take my time figuring out how to mount the TV.

These kits are pretty easy as I have used them a few times, the only issue is when I didnt realize that there pipes in my wall from the bathroom on the other side and a 2x4 cross piece. I just had to put the lower section a little higher than I wanted. My point it before cutting into your wall think about what could be inside. I assume most wouldn't be a problem

I hadn't thought about a cross piece - that's a horizontal piece of wood, right? It makes me nervous, not knowing what is behind the wall. I have a stud finder, so would that be able to sense any horizontals behind the wall? Not sure how accurate those finders are.

Stud finders are pretty easy to use and can identify any horizontal pieces of wood. It would be rare but I mentioned it as an issue I came across.

I think this TV LG 86" UP8770 has not been reviewed by RTings. The refresh rate is not correct on this review above

Refresh Rate
TruMotion 240 (120Hz Native)
thats correct the rtings review is for the smaller versions , this one has a 120hz panel.
