The problem with these deals is they don't tell you ANYTHING about the rod or reel. No power ratings, weight ratings, action type, spool capacity... Nothing.

For a BUDGET spinning reel, at around $30, the Shimano Sienna line is decent. Ramp up to $50-60 and you can get a Pflueger President or a Daiwa Regal LT. You can spend a lot more than that, but those are my sweet spots for value.

Rods have a lot of options, but a Berkley Cherrywood isn't a bad place to start.

If it's for a kid starting out, the Zebco 33 combo for around $30 is hard to beat for a combo. Strip the factory line and put something decent on it. The big warning here is that this is a starter rod and reel. Once you do any amount of fishing, you can then step into something more tailored to your style of fishing.

This is not salt rated (not found on description) but you can still salt fish just need to make sure you clean with fresh water after salt fishing. As for fish, you could literally catch almost all in shore, bank, or even some nice size fishes on any water. What's matter is the time, location, and bait used. Anyway, I got a better combo ugly stik for 30$ not too long ago from Walmart

Looks like a 1 piece short (less than 7') rod for pond fishing. Wouldn't recommend for salt. Not so much good reviews either.

Abu Garcia used to be a great brand. This reel is not great. Even Penn has garbage out there now. For $25, getting a reel and rod is not a bad deal, but this is a starter setup at best. I always say start with a good reel first. You can find people selling used reels on eBay for same price that are three steps ahead of this thing. Pay a little more for a good reel and you can dial in the rod that suits your tastes later.

I guess you have never slung the top part of your rod in the water during a cast. Granted it was old, but I prefer a one piece.

Concur I have a zebco open reel that has lasted for years from Walmart I tell everyone that is the one to get. It always catches fish too it's a lucky pole.

I recently moved to FL, and am looking for something for Salt, either from a pier, or just off the coast from a boat. Any recommendations?

Good deal for someone who wants to catch catfish and bass. I would rather go in Walmart and feel it out. It's a stiffer rod as I'm used to Ultra lights
