Is there a use case for choosing a 3080 8GB 130 watt over a 3070 8 GB 140 watt? It seems the 3080s do not offer much of a boost or temp benefit from lower wattage.

It is still faster than 140W RTX 3070 but not by a huge margin. From the reviews I've seen that if the RTX 3080 is configured with 100W-110W range, it performance suffers the most, getting beaten by 140W RTX 3070 in a lot of games. However, after 130W, It is going to beat 3070 at 140W, provided the laptop can handle the heat.
Looks like a very decent deal. 130 TDP is much better than those 90 TDP 3080. Almost hit the sweet spot.
I wonder how a 130watt 3080 is against a 125watt 3070, (before power boosting)
reason I ask. I am mining with my 3070 laptop ge76 (68mh 109 watt 56c) if this got into 70s I may buy one too

How efficient is that long-term? I'm not really into mining, but laptop heat is such an issue as-is, I imagine that laptop is blazin'!

I got my Ge76 3070 from costco, 2 year warranty + 2 more year warranty with my CC. Lol. Its on a little cheap 20 dollar laptop cooler and its garbage, but my garage and cooler keeps my laptop purring 56c* my laptop is barely spinning its internal fans.
but I just ordered a stupid $69 laptop cooler, I am trying this to see if I can make it compensate 99% for my laptop fans, because, I read laptop fans have a 50k hour spin speed. id like to minimize my internal fans.
in short, I made 20 bucks in last 3 days. im not concerned at all due to costco warranty, in 6 months it pays itself half off, and if ETH goes away, it paid 50% of my laptops value off and I keep it from there, and if theres another alt coin to use, I may mine that. but I bought this laptop to own as a gaming rig, but I only game like once a month, so why not let it try to pay itself down?
keep the temps down and you should be good!

Makes sense, and I was thinking extended warranty + on-site fix to address as well. That's how I normally go with laptops as they've been lifesavers in the past.
Also nice that you have the temp controlled garage! 👍

I have a 2tb samsung 970 evo and 64gb of ram I could toss in it, but I decided not too, because I dont want to break the little seal on bottom, not that it voids warranty... but since im ya know mining, I dont want them to suspect me of doing tasking stuff. just easier to dispute saying I babied it.

im using t rex miner. - not using afterburner, just used the oc settings in the bat file
1200core, 1700mem. 56c with 109watts. I can post some photos for ya. my new laptop cooler gets here, so ive had a 56c for 3 days average. will have a good base to compare w new cooler to see if does crap. if not im sending it back.

1999 lol. I mean it isnt cheap. but I wanted this to keep as gaming, all im doing is using residual $ from its earnings to pay the price of laptop down.
thanks. if you meant +1200, this is a lot of advance on the core clock (typically one lowers the core while advancing the memory). Or did you mean you fixed the core speed at 1200?

my t rex cmd prompt says 66.8 / 55-56c / 109-111 wats. laptop fans are like 10% speed, its just purring away. hoping to increase the cooling even more and use even less fan speed on laptop when new cooler comes in next hour or two.
my MSI center is on turbo mode, with auto fans. so it adds or deletes fans based on its temps.

Excellent; it makes sense now.. these are great hash rates and temps. I haven't pushed my Legion 7 beyond +1600mem; it is great that your system remains stable at +1700. What are your ambient temps like?
