This is the new model with a DC motor and I have not seen it on sale until now.

DC motors cost more to produce than the regular AC motors of the Artisan 5qt and Pro 5 Plus. Plus this model isn't produced in as much of a quantity so you lose savings from quantities of scale.
Using DC on a smaller capacity model like this allows it to have more torque than an equivalent sized AC motor, so someone who wants a smaller mixer for whatever reason doesn't have to necessarily give up kneading capability when it comes to dough.
So true! For the same price I would get the smaller one, but I can't justify the big price difference.
Haha I was definitely in that boat. Jumped on a costco kitchenaid professional 6qt deal. Really tried to live with it for a year. Then I realized how much we dreaded getting it out of the closet. And that we were going to have to live with it for a very long time.
So, we returned it (costco return policy). Then after a lot of research and articles on the mini, it looked like the only thing it can't make is really poofy pizza dough, can't use the ice cream attachment, and the coated whisk does not exist for it (so you're stuck with the burnished aluminum). So I went for it. Paid the premium for the 3.5qt (crate and barrel, at a price maybe 8 dollars more than this deal?) and it's been pretty great

This is probably a 2nd mixer for most people.

No drive port on the front
edit: photo showing up on SD might be wrong. linked product does show the traditional KitchenAid port on the nose
