this price is appropriate for the performance.

the $299 12600k is much faster than the 5600g, and even the 5700g

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-p...iew,8.html

you're paying a 10% discount on the 5700g, but you're getting more than a 10% deficit in performance compared to the $299 12600k

just wait 2 months for more boards to come out.

The ryzen chips have outdated graphics, even if they have more horsepower than Intel graphics.

The ryzen chips are not future proof, lacking the AV1 hardware decoder support. Future video streaming will shift toward AV1 codec.
Currently AMD chips use lots of cpu power to play av1 videos.
You're missing the point and tailoring the conversation to gaming, benchmarks, and other unnoticeable technicalities most people in this market don't care about. There's something called practical.

You'd be foolish to buy Zen 3 now that Intel 12th gen beats it on performance and pricing. As far as power consumption goes, in general use, idle, and gaming Intel is as power efficient as AMD, its only when you use 100% of the CPU is when the power rises above AMD, so applications like blender is when it gets hot, but 99% of people are buying these for gaming and general use so that points moot. Also 12th gen works on DDR4, and while Z690 boards start at $180, Z690 is the equivalent to an x570 board (starts at $160) (Z690 has more features though like PCIe 5.0, USB 4/Thunderbolt 4, and optional DDR5), the cheaper B660 12th gen boards launch in January.
I mean this as politely as possible, but you need to do some more research on power consumption differences between AMD and Intel.

There's simply no way a 10nm Intel CPU with a 125w tdp is going to perform as efficiently as a 7nm AMD CPU with 65w tdp rating (tdp ratings in general are a bit of a joke but that's another discussion...).

Intel chips DO idle fairly decently but under any load they jump significantly. Under PL2 (turbo) mode can easily double or near triple their power consumption.

Every one was thinking the same thing when Intel dropped the new stuff, "Yay, cheaper Ryzen!"
Not going back.
Dont care. Dont care about Windows 11. No shits to give about either one of them. Linux development is moving upstream of proprietary development. No one wants the bullshit anymore.

Rembrandt should be interesting, depending on how AMD handles it. It should have somewhere between 75-100% more graphics performance than the 5900H/5700G, but won't be Alder Lake's match in CPU performance, and will have less cores than even Alder Lake mobile (6+8). Rembrandt will get AV1 hardware decode and might actually benefit from its use of DDR5.

On the other hand, Intel's 128 execution unit Alchemist GPUs could revitalize the low end GPU market around the same time, and deliver more graphics performance than Rembrandt APUs can. A Core i5-12400F + Alchemist 128 combo should be enough to crush Rembrandt.

I couldnt get the founders edition but I got the MSI Gaming X and it was 679. I looked it up the MSRP should had been 479. So MSI guilty of scalping these cards too. With Chicago $80 tax, it was 760. This is way too much for something that had should been 399. Im still rocking with my GTX 1070 Ti so I wait I guess.

I'm still rocking a 1400 in my computer. I presume the performance of even the 5600g would be a big step up. Without knowing the specifics about my motherboard, are these CPUs compatible with any motherboard that supported 1400?
same. my r7 1700 is still cranking out, paired with a 1070ti. i used to over clock the cpu, but see no need anymore. imagine back then of paying $200 for a midrange video card. good ol' days not not getting ripped off by everyone. considering whats going on with all the thievery of high prices, i think i'll hold on to this rig for a few more years.

The biggest draw here is that its still AM4 and we have a big upgrade path with just a CPU swap. If you're building a completely new system sure you'd have to weigh intel vs AMD now that they are on par. If you already have an AM4 board, its a no brainer you aren't going to switch for PCIE4 or DDR5 those gains are minimal. You can go from a 2xxx or 3xxx AMD to a 5xxx CPU. Esp if you're like me and came in late with a B550 board on a 3xxx chip.

AV1? Do you think most people really care? How many people are streaming? What a joke.

R7 1700/AsRock B350/RX 580 8GB here, going to wait on Zen 3D.

Have you seen the latency of DDR5?
It's basically the same as DDR4, the cas latency number is in cycles, but the Ram runs faster so it's basically the same operational latency. There is a reason that tests have shown nearly 0 differences between fast ddr4 and ddr5 right now.

Do I want to spend the extra $80 for the 5700G. No gaming, occasional photo and video editing, occasional CAD work
Ddr4 would probably be fine with the I5. I haven't checked the mobo availability with ddr4. Personally I'd have a problem buying one with ddr4, knowing I'd be leaving performance on the table.

intel's new chipset is causing amd to drop the price.
Well that's definitely a first. Competition is awesome for the consumer.

It's not that simple, posters here have missed the main differences.

On paper this is 5-15% slower in games due to the cut down L3 cache from 32MB to 16MB, lower turbo from 4.6 Ghz to 4.4 Ghz. This also doesn't support PCIE 4, which means the latest gen PCIE 4.0 NVME's will suffer a bottleneck.

However the biggest difference is the market position. Why did people buy 5600x? Before Alder Lake launch, 5600x was THE best chip on the market for gaming because it is just a cut down 5800x. These two chips were the IPC leaders. But now that Alder Lake CPUs have better IPC than 5600x/5800x, the unique market position of 5600x has deteriorated.

Now back to 5600g. If you buy today, I recommend saving even further by dropping to the i5-10400f. That chip will beat 5600g handily in games at lower cost. It loses on average 5% to 5600x.

If you can wait a month, wait for the i5-12400f. Benchmark shows that it outperforms 5600x easily.
Lmao...

Ya, any AMD deal post always brings out the Intel fanboys.

Funny these people can't imagine buying anything not made by Intel for themselves, yet they don't understand that many will never buy Intel.
