Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

For the lazy:

**Not corexy**
**Not auto leveling**
**Direct drive MK8-ish hot end**

GENERAL SPECS

Technology: FDM
Year: 2021
Assembly: Unassembled
Mechanical arrangement: Cartesian XY
Manufacturer: Creality

3D PRINTING PROPERTIES

Build volume: 280 x 260 x 310 mm
Feeder system: Direct drive
Print Head: Single nozzle
Nozzle size: 0.4 mm (optional: 0.2, 0.8 and 1.2 mm)
Max. hot end temperature: 250 ℃
Max. heated bed temperature: 100 ℃
Print bed material: Textured Glass
Frame: Aluminum Alloy
Bed leveling: Manual

additional info:
- (may no longer be true): firmware does not support a bltouch add-on even if you want one, either way does not run Marlin
- the hotend and carriage is one piece, and the hotend is ptfe lined and cannot be swapped out
- x and y are silent drivers, but E and 0 are 4988s (cheapskates)

my opinion - a decent price for a budget large printer for people to tinker with. here's the effects of downsides:
1. unless you buy upgrade and update firmware, you will be releveling the bed manually every few prints depending on how stuck on the previous print was. this can take 15 minutes or so since you don't have automatic leveling.
2. due to the structure (Cartesian) and the additional confinement of the axis (done this way due to size), you will experience higher line noise and lower print speed that can't be resolved.
3. you cannot change the hotend type (you can swap any MK8 hot end though) without a rebuild of the axis. it's integrated which means better cooling and stability but don't expect to tinker much. the ptfe lining (standard for cheap printers) means you can't print super hot materials.

Great deal. Beats the Walmart reseller (Shenzhen Mutalai) price by ~$100.

Don't know much about this printer but direct drive and enclosure at this price point seems pretty legit.

Those Walmart resellers are often hilarious. $100 bottles of resin and scalping raspberry pis for 2-3x retail.

I don't get why creality has so many models, makes it really difficult to pick one

Seems to be some packing issues, so it might arrive broken: https://youtu.be/QBYaZx4hQHo

also, there is no top cover, so it doesn't really hold in the heat.

I've been looking for the first 3D printer for a long time for th family, especially my kids who are always building and tinkering w electronics and Legos and stuff. Finally pulled the trigger on this after watching some video reviews, particularly the ZDNET one. Hoping for the best with this one!

Good price for a decent printer. Expect to see a few more deals on the D1 because Creality recently announced a V1 version of the printer due for release in the next month or so.

I looked for announcements and wasn't able to find any. That makes it very tempting to wait and see what improvements they propose. For example, an easy way to add a cap or cover to the unit would be great. In fact, a diagram on the Comgrow website seems to show a plate that fits on the top.https://www.comgrow.com/products/...3d-printer (see midway down after the words "DIY+") But I don't see how that could possibly work without hampering movement of the extruder assembly.

Despite its quirks, a $388 price for a printer with sturdy build, direct drive, and quiet operation is probably too hard to resist.

3D printing can be a lot of fun assuming everyone is coming in with a desire to learn. Looks like this printer is pretty good out of the box. Understand it's limitations as others have noted. Stick with PLA for the first few months and resist the urge to modify it. There are a ton of you tubers who have great tutorials. The social media sites with 3D printing communities are a treasure trove for "learning from others mistakes." Learn the basics of bed leveling (tramming) and the role of the key slicer settings. Good luck and have fun!

For those asking about a hat (top cover), there are a couple different designs available on thingiverse that can be diy'd.

I'm new to 3d printing can anyone recommend a high end printer but also good bang for you buck? I'm looking to something that is more industrial grade.

That is too broad question, and you should specify your budget at least. In general, you pay for what you get, and the cost can be optimized by removing some features you don't need, e.g. enclosures, wireless, metal extruder, etc.

I think you should edit the first item in the additional info. I can find the bltouch firmware under accessory section at https://www.creality.com/download as of Oct 19.
