Was looking at this in-store. It's a great price for a budget HD monitor. I would use it for work, but really feels like 2K is needed at this size. Just my 2 cents. Of course the 2K going to be $80 more.

Depends on a many factors. Very subjective. Could depend on if he played on ps4 or pc. Could depend on if he plays minecraft, Call Of Duty, or maybe Sim racing.

Personally, looking for around these specs for a triple monitor setup for sim racing...which would probably be an upgrade from my 40" 16:9 TV.

I've had this monitor for several months now. Clear, bright picture with low latency. Worth the sticker price ($170) for a budget all-purpose monitor, even better at this price.

If the current monitor doesn't have adaptive sync (Freesync), this monitor is likely better even though it's only 75hz. It will be an upgrade in size and slightly in refresh rate with the adaptive sync a meaningful addition. As others suggested, higher refresh rate monitors like 144hz are a bigger upgrade. The difference between 144hz and 240hz is not as noticeable as 60 to 120 or 144.

Agreed, a 27"@1080p is getting brave. I typically dont purchase this resolution for anything over 24" which appears to be the sweet spot.
