Height adjustment is definitely bad design. I took mine apart and the problem is a little spring they used to push two parts of a barrel-shaped gear together. I think the purpose of the spring was to make some sort of quick release mechanism but The spring isn't strong enough to keep the gear engaged to the linear track so it slips and falls. This description probably won't make much sense but I'll try anyways in case you want to mess with it. The hole in the tabletop where you put the hex wrench to adjust height leads to a black plastic knob that turns the gears I mentioned. what I did was take that knob/gear assembly apart and take the spring out entirely and put in a small nut to take up the space where the spring was. This keeps the two-part gear pushed together and keeps it engaged to the linear track. Height adjustment works but you lose the quick release feature, which isn't a big deal imo since it's not like that was very useful with a defective height adjustment.

I have this same router. Purchased it about 3 years ago. The lift is garbage. It can't sustain the weight of the router. Replaced it thinking I got a defective unit. The new one has the same problem. I actually have to reach under and lift the router with my hand while cranking to lift it up. Forget about fine adjustment. You'll have to play with it to properly adjust. Other than that it's ok setup for the money.

If you're only ever going to use this kit as is, no mods, no other jigs, etc. I suspect it will be a fine fit for you. If you're a tinkerer and tend to enhance or expand or mod your toys, you should be aware that this table uses non-standard size miter tracks. It has 5/8" tracks rather than the usual 3/4". So you're pretty much stuck with the miter gauge that comes with it, or fabbing your own stuff.

This is the only thing that has kept me from grabbing one when they're $130.

FWIW, last year my local stores had some stock remaining after the holidays and clearanced them out at $99.

You must have something wrong, the lift is part of the router base, it's not a separate lift mechanism. Check the photo in the post. It's a hex hole on the micro adjust, which means your microadjust might be stripped or not functioning properly. You are releasing the router base lock when you try to raise or lower the router, aren't you? The router is not all that heavy, mine goes up and down very easily. The only other thing I can think of is that they redesigned it since you got yours. Something else is causing resistance or there may be damage to the threaded adjustment rod.
No, see the reply from almodtofu above. Obviously other people have the same problem. It's a design flaw. I will try what almondtofu suggested.

Agree -- I bought the router table before being a beginner. I modified many things afterwards, but the non-standard miter slot and featherboard slot (on the fence) have no alternative solution. It's just a good set for beginners' casual use at a very affordable price.

Good luck. I took a closer look, and I misremembered some of the details, but the main issue I had with mine is as I described. If you look at the 8th-ish picture on the Lowes website, it shows a closeup of the gear assembly. The horizontal, silver colored rod going across the gear housing, is your Target. The two-part gear should be on that rod and I just slid a spare nut I had lying around onto that rod in place of the spring.

There are several of these available at my local lowes. I have a Bosch 1617 and Colt but no table. Worth buying or should I just DIY a wing for my table saw and put the money towards a lift?

Will a Milwaukee cordless trim router fit in this table or am I better off buying just a table?

I think you're better off buying the Bosch 1617EVSPK on sale on Amazon for $159 and make your own router table if you need one. I bought this combo last year and for the price, it works. But the lack of variable speed on the router ended up being a huge issue when I started working with hardwoods.

I bought both the Bosch and the Milwaukee trim. Have to decide which to keep or get this one. The Bosch is a beast and really needs a table.

Had one when I started learning woodworking. The fence is Really tricky to adjust so I upgraded to Bosch later. Other than that overall it's good router for the price.

I had been looking to get this for so long. I love the idea of the fence (and not mdf). Ended up realizing I lack the space and don't really have a need yet. Did get a Ryobi trim router for like $44 on sale. Haven't used it yet so again, probably a good idea having saved like $80.

I have this same setup for over 3 years and although I haven't used it much (I use DeWalt DCW600B) It is good so far. The lift is still good but probably YMMV. You can't beat this price

Bought this on a deal last year about the same price, still sitting inside the original box.
Me too....me too. I'm glad I have it, I just haven't done as much woodworking as I was doing last winter.
