What the hell is wrong with Amazon? Selling opened items as new (no, not a marketplace seller)

Ordered a leather Apple Watch band from Amazon (genuine, new, sold and shipped by Amazon), received it earlier today, opened the box and there was nothing in it!

Obviously, someone did a splendid job of closing the package after taking the band out. Scammers are everywhere!!! What I don't understand is how that box ended up on my doorstep as a new item. This has been happening a lot more frequently with Amazon Warehouse purchases recently, but never with Amazon before.

Chatted with them and received a refund, but I would have rather received what I ordered.

I get that and I've purchased used/returned items from Amazon Warehouse in the past. This item was sold as new from Amazon directly.

No big loss, they will just stick it back in the box & send it to some other sucker.

You don't suppose that in the entire Bezos Empire, that he has 1 bad apple of an employee and they snagged your spiffy new watch out of the box, or are you of the opinion that Amazon makes a habit of selling opened empty boxes to their customers?

At least they stepped up and refunded your $$$ as I'm sure it wasn't a cheep purchase.

A return clearly just wasn't checked carefully or the reboxing was done so nicely that it looks unopened. Either way this is just human error, but some kind of policy or company wide issue.

I can picture OP shaking his fist in the air with the first sentence. Thankfully, this was not an issue as his sweater vest provides comfort, range of motion, and style.

I buy my underwear at the thrift store, they are already broken in and comfy.
