Thread Details
As of this evening (Nov 8th), about 10% of all community members will see a freshly redesigned Frontpage and Deal Details page. The fresh designs are a mini first step in a series of updates that will come in the next 12 months to help you save more and discover new ways to help fellow community members. The design also strives to better welcome new community members.
This thread will act as an FAQ and place for discussing the changes.
Let's get into the details:
What is new?
- Visual Design: The new design adheres to current Web standards. The new design appears on both the Frontpage and the Deal Details page.
-- Changes Specific To The Frontpage --
- Personalized Feed: For the last 20 years, the community sorted the Frontpage by the newest deals first. This is great for existing community members who understand how Slickdeals works, but newer members report confusion about how and why deals appear in the order they do. To help existing and new members alike, the design splits the Frontpage into 3 separate sections: Recommended/For You, Frontpage, Popular. Let's walk through each of these:
Can I change my default tab?
You can change the tab that appears by default when you load the page. Go to My Profile > Settings and Options > Site Settings > and set the "Default Frontpage Tab'' setting to whichever tab you prefer. Now, whenever you go to the home page, your preferred tab will always be the first set of deals you will see. Also, if you have not set your default tab, the site will remember which tab you visited last. If you leave the site and come back, the last tab you visited will be the tab that you will see.
How do I see the new design?
Don't worry if you can't see the new design right away. The testing system randomly selected 10% of the community to see the new design. You can see the new design by clicking on this link and then navigating to the home page. This will let you access the test so that you can engage with the new design. If you would like to opt-out, click on this link and navigate to the home page again. That will take you out of the test and you will see the normal home page and Deal Details page.
If those links do not work, try these three things:

Recommended/For You: The default tab for all community members is the Recommended or For You tab. For any logged out community members, this tab contains a series of trending deals across Frontpage, Popular, and Hot deals and is labeled "Recommend." For logged in members, this tab contains a personalized set of deals based on your browsing and engagement history on Slickdeals and is labeled "For You."
Frontpage/Popular: These tabs contain Frontpage or Popular deals sorted by most recent deals based on Frontpage/Popular date first, just like how the Frontpage and Popular deals page work today. Sorting and filtering are coming soon.- Featured Deals: The row of deals labeled "Featured" that used to appear at the top of the Frontpage moved to the feed on the Recommended/For You tab. Approximately seven Featured Deals appear every 3-4 deals with a "Promoted" tag.

If those links do not work, try these three things:
- Make sure you are using a desktop or laptop device. Slickdeals in a browser on a mobile device does not yet have the new design.
- If you have the Slickdeals extension installed, you will have to wait a few more months to access the new design.
- Make sure you do not have any "dislike" home page preferences. The new design does not yet support the "dislike" setting. If any category or store is set to "dislike" you will be unable to see the new design.
How do I leave feedback?
There are two ways to leave feedback for this test:
- Reply to this thread! Share with your fellow community members what you like and don't like about the new experience.
- Click on the blue smiley face in the bottom right corner of the new design. This will allow you to leave anonymous feedback about the page and should allow you to highlight individual elements so you can be specific with your feedback.
Thank you to all the community members who provided feedback that resulted in these changes and thanks to those who take the time to share feedback for the next wave of improvements.

One page to see what is for me or the latest front page additions makes it much easier to make sure I didn't miss something's than the multiple sections in the new design.
For me it's a good thing as it gets me off the internet. All that's left is for reddit to get rid of classic mode and city data to "modernize" their forums and I'll have no desire to browse the net at all anymore.

Then visit the homepage:

That should return you to the October 2021 version of Slickdeals' homepage.
First, never-ending scroll is bad and I want to see the break up of deals by dates.
Second, I want to be able to see the expired deals for each day again as well.
The new update removes both of these very useful features for me and I have reverted back to the previous view for now as a result.

As for having the deals bundled by day, it just makes it way to easier to know that I've seen a deal before. It's good and easy to understand organization. I usually check the site once a day on the front page and the dates make it very easy to distinguish what I've already seen and what I haven't. It's the main reason I detest infini-scroll type web site design that's made to keep you engaged on a site more because I have to pay extra close attention to make sure I didn't miss something from before. This is especially annoying when the website populates things in a different order than what I originally saw it in. That kind of website design might be good for the website/business because of engagement metrics, but it isn't good for the user/consumer and long term will drive users away.

---feedback previously left on the current designs---
On the homepage, there is a carousel displaying "Just For You" deals. The carousel has two buttons - one "<" button and one ">" button to rotate through the items in the carousel, see attached pic. Those two buttons are opaque and hiding the the pic AND text that is displayed underneath them. That makes it impossible to read the titles fully - and clicking the button rotates the carousel so the item is then hidden underneath the other button.
It would be very helpful if you make those two buttons (somewhat) transparent. You can e.g. add some transparency using css.

Change it back!
Too much white space, too hard to find what's important without staring at small print (like when the deal was posted)......
Another example of change just to make a change, NOT an improvement.
