7X us the most versatile as it works with all systems (PC, XB, PS, Switch). 7P does not work with XB, but otherwise they are almost identical.
Pretty sure the reason for the massive discount is because the newer versions just came out, 7P+ and 7X+. For the most part the same headset, just with USB C charging (instead of micro) and improved battery life (30 instead of 20 hrs).
I was able to order the 7P+ for 12% off at launch since I really wanted the USB C. Battery life not a big deal as 20 hrs is already impressive. I would have rather they just cut the weight a bit instead as it does get a bit fatiguing during an extended play session.
For what it is worth, I have the Arctis 7 and the 9x. They are the most comfortable headsets I have ever owned. The 9x is slightly newer and a little nicer. Sound quality is great and the chat/game slider is so worth it in my opinion.
Was contemplating picking up the 7+ but since it is new they don't have it as part of the sale.

Which gaming platform do you have? i'm looking for something for a PS5 and debating between the 7/7P and 9x.
I have the 7P for my PS5. Honestly the best gaming headset I have ever used and I paid the original price for them.
I later got a Xbox S and found out that they need the 7X because the 7P wont work with it. So I have those too. I "think" the 7X work with both systems. But I honestly prefer the 7P. The 7P feel slightly better, but still both are amazing. The 7X have a nice feature where you can balance the chat audio vs the game audio that is awesome.

I use my 9X with my Xbox Series X and then the 7 with my PC. The 7 also works wirelessly on my PS5.
I was actually looking into something else for the PS5 since my old ps4 gold headset isn't too comfortable. I was thinking 7+ since that would allow the chat toggle on PC and will still work with the PS5. I believe you can adjust game audio/chat on console on ps5(the 7 slider won't do anything on console). The 7P has a slider for sidetone, which I personally don't care for. Based on what I was reading, 7P or 7 both should support the PS5 fancy audio thing. If you won't use on PC i would say get the 7P maybe over the 7.
Now 7/7P vs 9x I am unsure. The bluetooth is awesome but the headset itself might only work by physical connection to the ps5 controller. I don't think the 9x has a wireless dongle(can't remember) since it connects to xbox wirelessly.

Great input.
I think I'll lean to the 7P since I don't want to buy an XBox.

I'm not a huge gamer so I've been trying to educate myself on the different brands and models within each brand.
I was tempted to go full price for the latest model 7P+ but the 7P is a really good price so I'm going with the cheaper model.

SteelSeries headsets are comfortable and sound great. I use the Arctis Pro with the PC and the 7P with PS5. But be aware, while the new ones have USB-C (nice and easy) charging - this is the older model with the micro USB charge port... If you don't mind that then you'll probably really like the headset.
